At ITM 2026, Kohan Textile Journal interviewed Chang, Managing Director of ACME Machinery, about the future of sustainable textile dyeing. During the interview, he explained how the company’s latest patented dyeing technology dramatically reduces water, energy, and chemical consumption while helping manufacturers address growing environmental challenges.
How do you see the future of the textile industry?
Chang: The textile industry is facing major global challenges, including water shortages, rising energy costs, and carbon emissions.
Textile manufacturing is one of the world’s largest consumers of water and energy, so reducing resource consumption has become one of the industry’s biggest priorities.
At ACME Machinery, we have focused for many years on developing dyeing technologies that significantly reduce water usage while improving production efficiency.
What is the key innovation you are introducing?
Chang: We have developed a new-generation dyeing machine that operates differently from conventional dyeing systems.
In traditional dyeing machines, the fabric moves by floating in water, requiring a high liquor ratio and large amounts of water.
Our patented technology uses a conveyor system instead. The fabric is no longer transported by floating in water but moves mechanically while being saturated with dye liquor.
As a result, the machine reduces water consumption by more than 65%. At the same time, manufacturers achieve similar reductions in steam, electricity, chemicals, and overall dyeing costs.
Beyond cost savings, this technology also significantly reduces wastewater generation and environmental impact.
Why is the Turkish market important for ACME Machinery?
Chang: Türkiye has one of the world’s largest textile industries, making it an important market for advanced dyeing technologies.
Many Turkish dye houses are actively looking for solutions that reduce water consumption and improve sustainability.
We are also seeing Turkish textile companies expanding production into Egypt, which further increases opportunities for efficient dyeing technologies across the region.
How do you view the future of textile manufacturing in the Middle East and Africa?
Chang: Production is gradually shifting toward regions with more competitive manufacturing costs.
While countries with higher labor costs continue to face challenges, we see strong opportunities across Asia, Africa, Egypt, and parts of Southern Europe, where textile manufacturing continues to develop.
As sustainability becomes a global requirement, demand for water-saving technologies will continue to increase across these markets.
Sustainable Dyeing Technologies Gain Momentum
According to ACME Machinery, the future of textile dyeing will be driven by technologies that reduce environmental impact while improving production efficiency. As manufacturers face increasing pressure to lower water consumption and carbon emissions, innovative low-liquor-ratio dyeing systems are becoming an essential investment.
With its patented conveyor-based dyeing technology capable of reducing water, energy, and chemical use by more than 65%, ACME Machinery aims to support textile producers in building a more sustainable and competitive future.
