At ITM 2026 in Istanbul, Behnam Ghasemi, Editor-in-Chief of Kohan Textile Journal, spoke with Mr. Luca Formentini, Managing Director of Loris Bellini. During this exclusive interview, Mr. Formentini discusses the company’s 75-year heritage in yarn dyeing technology, its long-standing presence in Türkiye, the growing importance of sustainable dyeing solutions, and future opportunities across the Middle East and Africa.
Could you please introduce Loris Bellini and its history?
Luca Formentini: Loris Bellini was founded in 1949, so we have more than 75 years of history. I represent the third generation of the family business. The company was established by my grandfather together with the two Bellini partners.
From the very beginning, Loris Bellini has specialized in yarn dyeing machinery. Our mission has always been to provide customers with premium-quality dyeing machines, and that philosophy has never changed over the decades. Today, we remain fully focused on designing and manufacturing high-end yarn dyeing equipment with exceptional quality and reliability.
What products does Loris Bellini offer to the textile industry?
Luca Formentini: Although we are not exhibiting machinery physically at ITM 2026, our product portfolio covers a complete range of yarn dyeing solutions.
We manufacture:
- Cone and bobbin yarn dyeing machines
- Hank yarn dyeing machines
- High-pressure bobbin drying systems
These solutions are designed to deliver superior dyeing quality while meeting the evolving needs of textile manufacturers worldwide.
Loris Bellini has a long history in Türkiye. How important is this market for your company?
Luca Formentini: We didn’t enter the Turkish market recently—we have been present here for many years. Our local partner, Modiano, has represented us for more than 25 years.
During the 1990s and the early 2000s, Türkiye was probably our number one market worldwide. We installed a significant number of machines here, and today the Bellini brand remains well recognized among Turkish textile producers.
What are your expectations for the Turkish textile market?
Luca Formentini: Like every company, our goal is to continue growing our business.
However, over the past two years we have witnessed a slowdown in the Turkish textile market for several reasons. Naturally, we hope the market will recover and return to the strong levels we experienced in previous years, allowing us to continue supporting Turkish customers as we have done for decades.
How do you see opportunities in the Middle East and Africa?
Luca Formentini: Currently, our presence is mainly concentrated in North African countries such as Egypt and, occasionally, Tunisia.
In the broader Middle East, our activities are still limited. We are actively looking for suitable local partners and agents to strengthen our presence in those markets.
We believe the Middle East offers long-term potential, and expanding our regional network is one of our future development priorities.
Sustainability has become a major topic for textile manufacturers. How is Loris Bellini addressing this challenge?
Luca Formentini: Sustainability is absolutely essential today.
About twelve years ago, we introduced our Pulsar cone dyeing machine, specifically designed to combine premium dyeing quality with significant reductions in resource consumption.
Since its launch, we have installed more than 200 Pulsar machines worldwide, including several in Türkiye.
The machine delivers substantial environmental and economic benefits:
- Approximately 60% lower electricity consumption compared with conventional dyeing machines.
- A liquor ratio of 1:4, resulting in 30–40% lower water consumption.
- Reduced steam usage.
- Lower chemical consumption.
By reducing water consumption, we automatically reduce the amount of steam and chemicals required during the dyeing process. As a result, customers achieve outstanding yarn quality while significantly lowering production costs and environmental impact.
What message would you like to share with textile manufacturers worldwide?
Luca Formentini: Our commitment remains the same as it was more than seventy years ago: to provide customers with the highest quality yarn dyeing machinery.
Today, quality alone is no longer enough. Manufacturers also need energy efficiency, lower operating costs, and sustainable production. Our goal is to continue delivering technologies that combine all of these requirements while helping customers remain competitive in an increasingly demanding textile market.
Editor’s Insight
Loris Bellini’s strategy demonstrates how traditional engineering excellence can evolve to meet modern sustainability requirements. Rather than competing solely on machine performance, the company has focused on reducing water, energy and chemical consumption without compromising dyeing quality.
With technologies such as the Pulsar dyeing machine already operating worldwide, Loris Bellini illustrates how innovation in yarn dyeing is increasingly driven by operational efficiency and environmental performance. As textile manufacturers face growing pressure to reduce production costs and carbon footprints, resource-saving dyeing technologies are likely to become a key differentiator in global textile manufacturing.
