Argus Sees Strong Growth Potential in Egypt’s Textile Industry

Egypt’s textile industry is positioned for further growth as investment continues in new spinning capacity and the modernisation of existing mills, according to James M. Carbone of Argus Fire Control.

Speaking with Kohan Textile Journal during EGY Stitch & Tex 2026 in Cairo, Carbone discussed the company’s industrial fire-detection and suppression technologies, the importance of protecting textile production facilities and Argus’ longstanding cooperation with ATAG in Egypt.

James M. Carbone Discusses Fire Protection and Egypt’s Textile Growth

Kohan Textile Journal: Could you introduce yourself, Argus and the company’s product range?

James M. Carbone: I am responsible for sales and distribution at Argus Fire Control. Argus has a history of approximately 65 years, providing the textile and cotton-ginning industries with high-speed detection and specialised fire-suppression systems.

Our technologies are designed to identify fire hazards rapidly and help prevent them from spreading through textile production systems. This is especially important in facilities processing cotton and other combustible fibres, where sparks, hot particles or metal contaminants can create serious safety and production risks.

Argus provides industrial protection systems incorporating fire detection, suppression, metal detection and material diversion for textile spinning, nonwoven production, cotton ginning and other industrial applications.

Kohan Textile Journal: How do you assess Egypt’s textile market?

James M. Carbone: I believe the Egyptian market is poised to take off and grow. The country already has considerable infrastructure in place, together with a skilled workforce and government investment in the textile industry.

Argus has worked with ATAG in Egypt for more than 20 years. During the past few years, we have seen significant growth among textile manufacturers, including investment in new spinning mills and reinvestment in existing facilities.

These developments demonstrate the market’s potential and the growing willingness of Egyptian manufacturers to improve their production capabilities.

Kohan Textile Journal: Why are Argus systems important for textile mills, and how do they support more resilient production?

James M. Carbone: The fire-detection and suppression systems we provide are first and foremost a life-safety measure. Protecting employees working inside textile mills must always be the main priority.

At the same time, our equipment helps keep production lines operating by reducing the risk of major fire incidents and minimising potential downtime. A fire can damage machinery, interrupt production and create significant financial losses for a manufacturer.

By detecting a potential hazard rapidly and initiating the appropriate response, the system helps protect the workforce, production equipment and the mill’s overall financial performance.

Kohan Textile Journal: How would you describe Argus’ cooperation with ATAG?

James M. Carbone: We have maintained a longstanding relationship with Ali Nagy and ATAG for more than 20 years. It is one of our most productive agency relationships anywhere in the world.

Argus serves customers in more than 60 countries, but we place great value on our cooperation with ATAG and on the relationships we have developed with the Egyptian companies we work with every day.

ATAG’s market knowledge and direct connection with textile manufacturers have played an important role in supporting our activities and helping us serve customers across Egypt.

Mill Safety Becomes More Important as Egypt Adds Capacity

Continued investment in Egyptian spinning mills creates opportunities for machinery and technology providers, but expanding production also increases the importance of industrial safety and process protection.

Cotton fibres, dust and waste materials can create fire risks at different stages of textile production. High-speed detection and specialised suppression technologies can therefore play an important role in protecting employees, machinery and production continuity.

For manufacturers investing in new capacity or modernising existing plants, integrating fire protection into the design of production lines can help reduce operational risk and avoid costly interruptions. Argus’ cooperation with ATAG provides the company with the local market presence and technical connection required to support textile and cotton-processing customers in Egypt.
