Egypt’s textile industry is expected to expand not only through additional production capacity but also through greater yarn diversification and improved quality, according to Giorgio Saleri, Sales Area Manager at Marzoli.
Speaking with Kohan Textile Journal during Egypt Stitch & Tex 2026 in Cairo, Saleri presented the company’s FTM 320 roving frame and explained how Marzoli’s repowering solutions can give existing textile machinery a “second life” through upgraded electronics, software and technology.
Giorgio Saleri on Marzoli Technology and Egypt’s Textile Market
Could you introduce Marzoli and the technologies presented at Egypt Stitch & Tex 2026?
Marzoli presented the FTM 320 roving frame, which is designed with up to 320 spindles to support longer and more productive configurations.
Although the FTM 320 was one of our main highlights at the exhibition, we are also ready to discuss our wider machinery portfolio with customers, particularly our roving technologies and transport systems.
The exhibition gives us an opportunity to remain close to Egyptian customers, understand their requirements and present solutions for both new projects and existing spinning mills.
What advantages does the FTM 320 offer textile manufacturers?
The FTM 320 can accommodate up to 320 spindles, providing customers with a long-machine configuration designed to support higher production requirements.
However, our approach is not limited to offering a standard machine. We work closely with customers to develop solutions that correspond to their production conditions, yarn-quality objectives and individual mill requirements.
Personalisation is an important part of our proposal because every spinning project has different priorities regarding production, automation, quality and material handling.
How does Marzoli support customers operating older machinery?
In addition to new machinery and spare parts, one of our important activities is the repowering of existing machines.
Repowering gives textile manufacturers an opportunity to extend the operating life of their installed equipment. By reviewing the machine and introducing new electronics, updated software and more recent technologies, we can help restore and improve its performance.
The objective is to give the machine a second life, allowing it to operate with technology closer to that of current models while improving productivity and yarn quality.
This can be particularly relevant when manufacturers want to modernise their production without immediately replacing their entire installed machinery base.

How do you assess the potential of Egypt’s textile market?
Egypt is a very important market for Marzoli and also holds an important position in the international textile industry.
We expect the Egyptian market to continue developing in the future. This growth should not be measured only by the number of installed spindles or the total volume of production.
We also anticipate greater diversification in the types of yarn manufactured in Egypt, together with stronger attention to yarn quality. This development can create demand for more advanced production technologies and personalised spinning solutions.

How important is Marzoli’s cooperation with ASHTEX in Egypt?
We are very pleased with our cooperation with ASHTEX, which has continued for approximately 12 years.
This partnership helps us remain close to customers and provide strong local technical assistance. The service team supports machinery installation and assists customers with their operational requirements.
Product specialists also work with customers to improve service standards, machinery performance and yarn quality. This combination of Marzoli’s technology and ASHTEX’s local presence enables us to respond more effectively to the needs of the Egyptian market.
What distinguishes Marzoli from other textile machinery manufacturers?
Marzoli has approximately 170 years of experience in the textile industry. During this long history, we have continuously learned from the market and improved our machinery and technology.
Our position within the Camozzi Group gives us access to knowledge and capabilities extending beyond Marzoli itself. We collaborate with sister companies across the group to develop automation technologies, specialised components and production solutions.
Important core components can be produced using capabilities available within the group before the machinery is assembled and delivered to customers. This cooperation helps us maintain control over technology and component quality.
Automation, technological development and continuous improvement are deeply integrated into Marzoli’s approach.
How would you describe Marzoli in three words?
The three characteristics that best describe Marzoli are customer proximity, innovation and quality.
Remaining close to customers is central to our identity. At the same time, research and development form an essential part of our work.
We continuously study how to improve our machinery, technologies and customer proposals. Our aim is to deliver personalised solutions that can improve production performance and the quality of the finished yarn.
Repowering Offers an Alternative Route to Mill Modernisation
Why is repowering particularly relevant to today’s spinning mills?
Textile manufacturers are currently under pressure to improve productivity and quality while carefully managing capital expenditure.
Repowering provides another route to modernisation by upgrading machinery already operating inside the mill. New electronic systems and software can enhance machine capabilities and help customers benefit from more recent technological developments.
The solution can extend equipment life while improving productivity and yarn quality. It also allows manufacturers to modernise selected areas of production according to their operational priorities.
For Marzoli, supporting customers through spare parts, technical service and repowering is therefore an important complement to supplying new machinery.
Editor’s Note
This interview was conducted by Kohan Textile Journal during Egypt Stitch & Tex 2026 in Cairo. The discussion highlights the growing role of machinery modernisation in Egypt’s spinning industry, where manufacturers are seeking to expand production while improving yarn quality and extending the useful life of their existing equipment.
