Saurer expects between 100,000 and 120,000 Zinser 51 spindles to be operating in Egypt by the end of 2027 as new spinning projects strengthen the company’s presence in the market.
Speaking with Kohan Textile Journal at EGY Stitch & Tex 2026, Sivakumar P, Head of Sales and Product Management at Saurer Group, discussed customer interest in the Zinser 51, the company’s cooperation with ATAG and Egypt’s potential to attract further investment from international textile manufacturers.
Sivakumar also identified Saurer’s local service organisation as one of its main advantages in Egypt, with seven to eight engineers based in the country to support customers.
Saurer Focuses on Customer Discussions at EGY Stitch & Tex
What did Saurer present during EGY Stitch & Tex 2026?
Sivakumar P: We were pleased to welcome the large number of visitors attending the exhibition. Many of the machines we offer are already installed and operating at customer facilities in Egypt.
For this reason, we did not exhibit a physical machine during the event. Instead, our team was present to meet customers, answer their questions and discuss their production requirements.
The Zinser 51, which was introduced several years ago, is already operating successfully in Egypt and has performed well in the market so far.
Up to 120,000 Zinser 51 Spindles Planned for Egypt
How important is Egypt to Saurer’s spinning machinery business?
Sivakumar P: Egypt has always been a promising market for Saurer. We already have a significant installed base in the country and are preparing to deliver several additional projects involving the Zinser 51.
By the end of 2027, we expect approximately 100,000 to 120,000 Zinser 51 spindles to be operating in the Egyptian market.
This demonstrates the level of customer confidence in the technology and the potential we see for further development in Egypt’s spinning industry.
How does your cooperation with ATAG support Saurer in Egypt?
Sivakumar P: ATAG is one of our strategic partners in the Egyptian market. The company has a clear vision, a strong market strategy and close relationships with customers.
This cooperation helps us represent Saurer more effectively and remain closely connected with the needs of Egyptian spinning mills. We have always maintained a very good partnership with ATAG.

Egypt Could Attract More International Spinning Investment
How do you evaluate textile machinery investment in Egypt compared with other markets?
Sivakumar P: Globally, considerable textile investment is currently taking place in China, followed by India. Türkiye is also beginning to experience some renewed activity.
Egypt continues to perform well despite being a smaller market. It has considerable potential, and I expect further investment in the future.
Companies from countries including Türkiye and China are showing interest in investing in Egypt. For this reason, I believe Egypt could become a much larger spinning market in the coming years.
What are Saurer’s main competitive advantages in Egypt?
Sivakumar P: Our technology is one important advantage, but our local service structure is equally significant.
Saurer has a dedicated service team of approximately seven to eight engineers based in Egypt. They are available to support customers locally, while specialists from India, China and other major markets can also be sent when additional expertise is required.
Customers can reach us easily, and we are ready to provide the necessary support. Compared with many other machinery manufacturers, we consider this local service capability a major advantage.

Local Service Supports Long-Term Machinery Investment
Sivakumar’s comments indicate that Saurer views Egypt as more than a market for individual machinery sales. Its strategy combines new installations, a local engineering team and cooperation with ATAG to provide ongoing customer support.
For spinning mills, access to technical service can be as important as the initial machinery specification. Fast troubleshooting, operator support and maintenance expertise directly influence machine availability and long-term production performance.
If the projected Zinser 51 projects are completed, an installed base of up to 120,000 spindles by the end of 2027 would mark a significant expansion of Saurer’s ring-spinning presence in Egypt.
