Saurer Sees Bright Future for Rotor Spinning in Egypt

Growing interest in open-end spinning technology and new installations is strengthening Saurer’s confidence in the Egyptian textile market, according to Christian von Kannen, Vice President After Sales Solutions at Saurer.

Speaking with Kohan Textile Journal during EGY Stitch & Tex 2026 in Cairo, von Kannen discussed the Autocoro 11 Recycling Xtreme, the importance of reliable after-sales support and the production of Saurer’s rotor-spinning components in Germany.

Christian von Kannen Discusses Saurer’s Solutions for the Egyptian Market

Kohan Textile Journal: Could you introduce yourself and Saurer’s activities in Egypt?

Christian von Kannen: My name is Christian von Kannen, and I am responsible for after-sales and service within the Saurer Group. I work for Saurer Spinning Solutions in Germany.

In Egypt, we cooperate directly with our longstanding local partner, ATAG and Ali Nagy, who is well known across the market.

Our mission is to provide customers with original parts, technical service and after-sales solutions. Selling a machine is only the beginning. Our responsibility is to help customers keep their machines running efficiently after installation.

At EGY Stitch & Tex 2026, we are presenting the new Autocoro 11 Recycling Xtreme. We are also introducing Saurer’s wider portfolio, including ring-spinning, pre-spinning and Texparts solutions.

The Autocoro 11 Recycling Xtreme incorporates technologies developed for processing mechanically recycled fibres, including short fibres that can generate considerable dust and fly during production.

Kohan Textile Journal: How do you assess the potential of Egypt’s textile market?

Christian von Kannen: We see the market growing, particularly in the open-end spinning segment. Interest in our technologies is increasing, and we have already seen good installations and new customers investing in the Autocoro 11 rotor-spinning machine.

Based on these developments, we see a bright future for Saurer and open-end spinning technology in Egypt.

Kohan Textile Journal: Why is after-sales service so important for spinning mills?

Christian von Kannen: Having access to reliable after-sales service is one of the most important considerations for our customers.

A high-quality machine provides a strong foundation, but customers also need a dependable partner to keep that machine operating efficiently and profitably throughout its service life.

This is what Saurer has represented for many years. We support customers with technical expertise, service, original parts and solutions that help maintain machine performance. The ultimate objective is to enable spinning mills to maximise the value and profitability of their investment.

Kohan Textile Journal: How would you describe Saurer’s cooperation with ATAG?

Christian von Kannen: ATAG, led by our longstanding partner Ali Nagy, brings extensive experience and strong connections within the Egyptian textile market.

Together, we serve customers by providing technical services and sharing the experience required to operate their machines effectively. The combination of Saurer’s technology and ATAG’s local knowledge helps customers improve performance and achieve profitable production.

Kohan Textile Journal: What would you like to highlight about Saurer’s production in Germany?

Christian von Kannen: The production of the Autocoro 11 and its spinning components is based in Germany. Our high-technology spinning components are manufactured at our facility in Übach-Palenberg, where we have extensive production and coating expertise.

A spinning machine naturally requires consumable components, including opening rollers and rotor cups. These components are produced at our German facility, from the initial raw material through to the fully coated rotor.

We have our own coating department in Übach-Palenberg, supported by many years of experience. Producing these components internally allows us to maintain the quality required to support machine performance and help customers achieve the best possible results from their investment.

After-Sales Support Becomes Central to Spinning-Mill Profitability

As Egyptian textile manufacturers invest in new spinning machinery, the availability of original components, technical expertise and responsive service will become increasingly important.

Machine performance depends not only on the initial technology but also on maintenance quality, component reliability and access to experienced service teams. These factors directly affect production continuity, yarn quality and the long-term profitability of machinery investments.

Saurer’s partnership with ATAG combines German manufacturing and technical knowledge with local customer support in Egypt. This approach can help spinning mills maintain their machinery while responding more effectively to changing production requirements.

The growing interest in rotor spinning and recycled-fibre processing could create further opportunities for the Autocoro 11 Recycling Xtreme as Egypt expands its spinning capacity.
