Morocco Ranks Third in Africa’s 2025 Textile and Apparel Exports

Morocco rose to third place in Africa’s textile and apparel exports in 2025, underscoring the country’s rapid industrial growth and strategic trade positioning, according to a report published by African Exponent.

Drivers Behind Morocco’s Export Rise

The ranking follows a continent-wide assessment of export scale, market reach, industrial capacity, and trade integration. South Africa led the continent, followed by Egypt, while Morocco moved ahead of several regional competitors.

Analysts attribute Morocco’s rise to its efficient port infrastructure, modern manufacturing facilities, and extensive free trade agreements with Europe. These advantages have made the country a preferred sourcing base for fast fashion brands seeking short lead times and flexible order volumes.

Speed, Quality, and Market Access

Throughout 2025, Morocco’s textile exports expanded by combining speed, quality, and scalability. Local factories supply a wide range of products for European brands, spanning fast fashion to premium apparel. This balance of responsiveness and quality has positioned Morocco among Africa’s most competitive exporters.

Strategic Investments and Sustainability

Industry data highlights Morocco’s role as a bridge between African manufacturing and international demand. Government investment in logistics, industrial zones, and sustainability initiatives continues to support export growth. Measures such as water-efficient production and renewable energy adoption have further increased Morocco’s appeal to global buyers.

Outlook

Textiles and apparel remain a cornerstone of Morocco’s economy, supporting employment, foreign exchange earnings, and industrial development. As global brands diversify sourcing beyond Asia, analysts see strong long-term growth potential for Morocco’s textile and apparel sector.

Tunisia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Ghana, Madagascar, and Tanzania complete Africa’s top ten textile and apparel exporters, reflecting the continent’s growing role in global fashion supply chains.
