Moroccan authorities have officially launched a major textile manufacturing project by China’s Sunrise Group in the Ben Souda industrial zone in Fes, an investment worth MAD 1.4 billion (USD 154 million) that is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The inauguration was led by Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate for Investment, and Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, who described the EUWEN TEXTILES project — a Sunrise Group subsidiary — as a strategic step toward accelerating industrial investment and reindustrialization across the Fes–Meknes region.
A Fully Integrated Textile Production Chain
The new plant will establish a vertically integrated textile and apparel production hub, spanning:
- yarn and fabric manufacturing,
- weaving and knitting,
- dyeing and textile printing,
- and garment production.
Officials emphasized that this model will reduce Morocco’s reliance on imports, lower logistics costs, shorten delivery times, and position Moroccan manufacturers to better serve global brands.
Construction Underway, Operations Set for Q3 2026
Sunrise Group has already begun construction on the 20-hectare facility, which will feature:
- 248,000 spindles for spinning,
- 21,600 tons of knitted fabric annually,
- 54 million meters of woven fabric,
- enabling the production of 41–50 million garments per year.
- The plant is expected to begin operations in Q3 2026.
- Part of a Larger USD 252 Million Investment Plan
The Fez project is part of a broader MAD 2.3 billion (USD 252 million) investment program by Sunrise to expand its footprint in Morocco’s textile sector. A second textile plant is planned for Skhirat, with details to be announced soon.
The selection of Fez and Skhirat reflects both regions’ strong infrastructure and industrial capabilities, officials noted.

Strengthening Morocco’s Export-Oriented Textile Sector
According to the Ministry of Industry, 67.5% of revenue in Morocco’s textile and leather sector came from exports in 2024, with total earnings reaching MAD 67.8 billion. The sector also ranked as the second-largest industrial employer, representing 23.7% of industrial jobs.
With Sunrise projecting 7,000 direct jobs across its two upcoming Moroccan plants, the new investments are expected to further reinforce the country’s role as a competitive textile production hub for European and global markets.
