Egypt Highlights its Strategic Role in Africa’s Textile Transformation at World Cotton Day 2025

The Textile Export Council of Egypt proudly participated in the global celebration of World Cotton Day 2025, held under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at its headquarters in Rome. The event, jointly organized by FAO, the International Trade Centre (ITC), and the Republic of Chad, brought together international leaders, industry experts, and policymakers to emphasize cotton’s critical contribution to sustainable development, livelihoods, and global trade.

Celebrated annually on October 7, World Cotton Day highlights cotton as more than just a natural fiber—it stands as a vital economic engine powering agricultural communities, manufacturing ecosystems, and cross-border commerce across continents.

Egypt’s Active Role under the AfCFTA Framework

During the high-level conference, the Textile Export Council of Egypt (TECE) represented the nation’s textile and apparel sector in discussions centered around the theme “From Cotton to Apparel”—a key pillar of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

The Council underscored Egypt’s strategic importance as a textile production and export hub, showcasing its advanced manufacturing capabilities, competitive advantages in cotton spinning and weaving, and long-standing tradition in high-quality fiber production. Egypt’s participation further highlighted the country’s potential to drive deeper integration within the African textile value chain and strengthen intra-African trade.

“Egypt’s cotton heritage and textile expertise position it as a pivotal link in the continent’s industrial transformation,” the Council emphasized. “Through regional collaboration and shared innovation, we aim to unlock new opportunities for sustainable growth under the AfCFTA framework.”

Commitment to Sustainable Growth and Regional Cooperation

By taking part in World Cotton Day 2025, the Textile Export Council of Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to fostering regional cooperation, promoting sustainable practices, and advancing Africa’s textile and apparel competitiveness on the global stage.
The Council’s engagement aligns with Egypt’s broader vision to elevate value-added exports, enhance industry resilience, and contribute to the global recognition of cotton as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and shared prosperity.

About the Textile Export Council of Egypt (TECE):

TECE represents Egypt’s leading textile and apparel manufacturers, exporters, and innovators. The Council works to strengthen Egypt’s position in global markets, promote sustainable trade practices, and support the country’s industrial development goals in alignment with international standards.
