Cork Meets Cotton: Textile Innovation at Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2026

Drink your wine… then make fabric from the cork!
One of the materials that really caught my attention at Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2026 was something I didn’t expect to see in a home textile fabric: CORK.

Cork Enters Home Textile Innovation

At the Home From Portugal pavilion, I came across an interesting fabric developed by Têxteis Penedo S.A., combining:
90% Cotton + 10% Cork
Portugal is already famous worldwide for cork, but turning this traditional natural material into part of a textile product is a great example of how the industry can create innovation from materials we already know.

Innovation Does Not Always Require Complex Technology

For me, this was one of those small discoveries that makes visiting exhibitions like Intertextile Shanghai worthwhile. Innovation in textiles doesn’t always mean a new machine or complicated technology.
Sometimes it simply means using a familiar material in a completely new way.
And perhaps next time you open a bottle of wine, you’ll look at the cork a little differently.
