Egypt is intensifying efforts to position itself as a regional hub for textile manufacturing, with Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), urging German companies to localise their advanced textile machinery technologies in the country.
Speaking at the Textile Machinery Technology Conference organised by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Heiba underscored Egypt’s strong investment climate, strengthened by years of structural reforms and a comprehensive package of incentives. These include the streamlined “golden licence,” tax and non-tax benefits, and tailored investment systems designed to accelerate industrial expansion.
Access to Global Markets
Heiba highlighted Egypt’s strategic positioning as a gateway to over 1.5 billion consumers, thanks to an extensive network of trade agreements with Africa, Europe, the United States, and other key markets. With its skilled labour force and advanced infrastructure, Egypt is prepared to support the rapid expansion of textile manufacturing and exports.
“The textile sector is of strategic importance to Egypt’s economy,” Heiba said, stressing the government’s commitment to modernisation, sustainability, and digital transformation. “German technology and expertise can play a vital role in enabling Egypt to achieve its vision of becoming a fully integrated, globally competitive hub for textiles.”
German Innovation on Display
The event brought together 18 leading German textile machinery companies, alongside representatives from the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). Cutting-edge German innovations in textile machinery and technology were showcased as potential solutions to support Egypt’s industrial transformation.
Katrin Jennicke, speaking on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, described the conference as “a meaningful step toward deepening collaboration between Egypt and Germany in the textile sector,” affirming Egypt’s strong fundamentals and promising outlook for long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
