Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its position as one of Central Asia’s leading textile producers, exporting nearly 80% of its ready-made textile production while expanding its industrial manufacturing base.
Speaking at the Georgia–Turkmenistan Business Forum in Tbilisi, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced that the country now produces more than 130,000 tonnes of ready-made textile products annually, with approximately 80% destined for international markets.
The figures underline the strategic importance of the textile industry within Turkmenistan’s export-oriented economy and reflect the country’s ongoing investment in value-added manufacturing rather than raw material exports.
Textile Sector Drives Export Growth
The textile industry remains one of Turkmenistan’s strongest industrial sectors, supported by abundant domestic cotton production and continued government investment in modern manufacturing facilities.
By exporting the majority of its textile output, the country is positioning itself as a competitive supplier to regional and international markets while strengthening its role in Central Asia’s textile value chain.
Industrial Diversification Continues
Beyond textiles, Berdimuhamedov highlighted the country’s efforts to expand production across several industrial sectors.
According to the President, Turkmenistan is increasing manufacturing capacity in:
- Construction materials
- Metal products
- Plastic products
- Cables
- Electrical equipment
The expansion forms part of the country’s broader strategy to diversify its industrial economy and reduce dependence on traditional commodity exports.
Private Investment Supports Agricultural Exports
The President also emphasized that growing private-sector participation and investment are helping increase the export potential of Turkmenistan’s agricultural sector.
He noted that the country has become one of the region’s important suppliers of environmentally friendly food products, reflecting broader efforts to strengthen non-energy exports.

Strengthening Regional Economic Cooperation
The announcement was made during the Georgia–Turkmenistan Business Forum, highlighting growing economic cooperation between the two countries and renewed efforts to expand trade and investment across the region.
As Central Asian economies continue to modernize their manufacturing industries, Turkmenistan’s emphasis on textile exports and industrial diversification could further enhance its role as a regional production hub serving markets in Europe, the Caucasus, the Middle East, and Asia.
