Turkmenistan Opens Textile Waste Recycling Facility to Boost Circular Manufacturing

Turkmenistan has commissioned a new textile and agricultural waste recycling facility at the Dashoguz Cotton Spinning Mill, strengthening the country’s efforts to expand circular manufacturing and increase value addition within its textile industry.

According to a statement released by the Turkmen government, the new facility is designed to process cotton waste, wool, reeds and cotton stalks into industrial materials used in the furniture and construction sectors.

7,200-Ton Annual Processing Capacity

The recycling plant has an annual production capacity of 7,200 tonnes and is expected to supply raw materials for Turkmenistan’s domestic furniture and building materials industries.

The facility is equipped with modern processing technologies that enable the efficient utilization of by-products generated by both the textile and agricultural sectors, supporting the country’s resource-efficiency and waste reduction objectives. The project has also created approximately 60 new jobs, according to government officials.

Supporting the Development of Turkmenistan’s Textile Industry

The government stated that Turkmenistan’s textile sector currently comprises 59 manufacturing enterprises, employing around 24,000 people.
The industry remains one of the country’s largest non-oil manufacturing sectors and is managed by the Ministry of Textile Industry of Turkmenistan.
Built on the country’s domestic cotton production, the textile industry operates a vertically integrated value chain covering cotton ginning, spinning, weaving, dyeing and garment manufacturing.

Expanding Domestic Value Addition

State-owned textile enterprises operate across all five regions of Turkmenistan, including major production facilities in Dashoguz Region, Mary Region, Lebap Region, Balkan Region, and Ahal Region.

Among the country’s key textile manufacturers are the Halach Cotton Spinning Factory, Dashoguz Serdar Enterprise, Bayramaly Textile Complex, and Balkandokma Cotton Spinning Factory, which produce cotton yarn and fabrics for both domestic consumption and export markets.

A significant share of production consists of cotton yarn ranging from Nm 14/1 to Nm 34/1, exported through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan to markets including Türkiye, Russia, and countries across Central Asia.

The launch of the new recycling facility reflects Turkmenistan’s broader strategy of increasing domestic processing capacity, improving resource efficiency and expanding the circular economy within its textile sector.
