Turkish Furniture, Paper, and Forestry Products Industry Expands Its Export Reach to Africa

In a strategic push to broaden export markets, the Istanbul Furniture, Paper, and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association has initiated the “Mauritania-Senegal General Trade Delegation” to boost exports to Africa. Coordinated by the Ministry of Trade and organized by the Istanbul Exporters’ Associations, this effort aligns with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Countries Strategy, focusing on enhancing trade relations and unlocking new market potential.

New Investments and Market Expansion

Turkey’s furniture, paper, and forestry products sectors have made significant strides in recent years, with continuous improvements in design and quality. Driven by new investments and a forward-looking approach, the industry is keen to expand its reach by tapping into emerging markets across Africa.

The delegation to Mauritania and Senegal marked a pivotal step. Representatives from multiple Turkish industries joined the event to foster trade relations and highlight Turkey’s high-quality product offerings. This outreach underscores Turkey’s commitment to strengthening its presence in African markets and increasing trade with the continent.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties with Mauritania and Senegal

Under the OIC Countries Strategy, the Turkish Exporters Assembly organized a delegation visit to Mauritania and Senegal. Both countries have longstanding ties with Turkey, making them ideal partners for deepening economic relations. These meetings, deemed highly productive, reflect the ongoing efforts of Turkish exporters to align with the country’s macro and sectoral export strategies.

In 2022, Turkey exported $637 million worth of goods to Senegal and $208 million to Mauritania. The growing interest in Turkish products across Africa demonstrates the success of the strategy and provides a foundation for further collaboration.

Turkish Producers Seize Opportunities in Africa’s Expanding Markets

Africa has become an increasingly promising market for Turkish products, and the Istanbul Furniture, Paper, and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association is dedicated to capitalizing on this potential. The recent trade delegation marks Turkey’s first visit to Mauritania and Senegal, two stable and strategically located countries in West Africa. With these visits, Turkish exporters aim to establish a solid foothold in West Africa and increase trade volume in the coming years.

Senegal and Mauritania as Trade Gateways

Senegal and Mauritania stand out as attractive trade destinations for Turkey, not only due to their geographical position but also their port facilities, which facilitate efficient regional logistics. The growing infrastructure and stable economic environments of these nations make them ideal hubs for trade. Additionally, the availability of Turkish Airlines flights to Dakar supports seamless logistics for both passenger and cargo traffic, strengthening the supply chain between Turkey and West Africa.

Looking Forward to Growth in 2024

Following successful discussions with key local stakeholders, Turkish exporters anticipate increased trade opportunities in Senegal and Mauritania in 2024. Turkey’s reputation for quality in the furniture, paper, and forestry products sectors has paved the way for future trade growth, with Turkish companies positioned to contribute significantly to local economies in Africa.

The Istanbul Furniture, Paper, and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association continues to work toward diversifying and expanding Turkey’s export markets by fostering international cooperation and taking advantage of emerging opportunities in Africa.
