Zimmer Austria’s service approach in Türkiye highlights how technical support, spare parts availability and fast commissioning can directly influence the real cost of textile machinery investment.

When textile manufacturers evaluate a new digital printing machine, textile machinery after-sales service should be considered alongside the initial purchase price. For an industrial production line operating thousands of square metres per day, the purchase price represents only one part of the real investment.

Machine availability, commissioning time, technical support, spare parts, software assistance and the ability to quickly resolve production problems can ultimately have a much greater impact on profitability.

Speaking about Zimmer Austria’s after-sales operations in Türkiye, Alican Alkım Şar, Service Engineer at Zimmer Austria and ERA Mümessillik ve Makina, explains why machinery suppliers increasingly need to provide much more than technology.
For manufacturers, the real question is no longer simply “How much does the machine cost?”
It is also:
“How reliably can this machine keep producing?”

Türkiye remains one of the world’s important textile manufacturing markets, with major production clusters operating across spinning, weaving, knitting, finishing, dyeing, printing, apparel and carpet manufacturing.

According to Şar, Zimmer Austria has therefore developed a substantial Turkish technical service capability.
“For the last three years, all installations in Türkiye have been carried out completely by Turkish technicians,” he explains.

This local structure is additionally supported by remote technical assistance from Europe during daytime operating hours.
The combination allows many technical issues to be addressed locally while maintaining access to the manufacturer’s wider technical expertise when necessary.

One of the most significant elements of this service structure is the availability of technical personnel in Gaziantep.
Şar says Zimmer Austria maintains technician availability in the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week, enabling customers to receive assistance during both daytime and nighttime production.

For industrial manufacturers, this availability can have a direct financial impact.
A printing machine producing around 25,000 square metres per day, for example, can generate substantial output. If such a machine remains idle for several days because a technician or replacement component is unavailable, the resulting lost production can quickly become significant.

This changes the economics of machinery purchasing.
A machine that initially costs less may not necessarily remain the less expensive investment if production interruptions are longer or technical assistance is difficult to access.

Şar points specifically to the potential consequences of waiting 10 or 15 days for spare parts or service.
For a high-capacity textile producer, the value of production lost during such a period can potentially outweigh differences between competing machine purchase prices.

This is particularly relevant in carpet and textile digital printing, where production schedules may be closely connected with customer delivery commitments.
When one major production line stops, the consequences can extend beyond the machine itself.
Finishing schedules can be disrupted, deliveries can be delayed and overall factory utilisation can decline.

According to Şar, Zimmer Austria demonstrated the importance of this process in Türkiye when three machines were brought into production within approximately three months during the previous year and subsequently operated at full production levels.

The difference between those two dates can have a significant financial value.

There is another important relationship that manufacturers should consider: the higher a machine’s productivity becomes, the more expensive its downtime can become.
A machine capable of producing 25,000 square metres per day creates very different downtime economics from a low-capacity production system.

Higher productivity therefore increases the importance of machine reliability and service response. This creates an interesting paradox within modern textile manufacturing. As machinery becomes faster and more automated, manufacturers may require fewer interventions during normal production. But when an interruption does occur, every hour of lost production potentially becomes more valuable.

The Cheapest Machine Is Not Necessarily the Lowest-Cost Machine

Conversely, an inexpensive machine can become costly if manufacturers experience extended commissioning periods, recurring downtime or difficulty obtaining technical support.
