In a notable milestone for German-Egyptian industrial relations, the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed a new investment contract with SUN GARDEN, a prominent German manufacturer of home textiles, mattresses, garden furniture, and umbrellas. The $7 million (approximately EGP 340 million) project will be established in the Qantara West Industrial Zone on a 30,000-square-meter plot, creating 500 direct job opportunities.
The agreement was formalized by Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, and Mr. Ewald Franz Kösters, Chairman of SUN GARDEN, marking the first German industrial project to be launched in Qantara West.
Enhancing Egypt’s Integrated Textile and Furnishing Value Chain
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien underscored the strategic importance of this development:
“The arrival of SUN GARDEN signals the first German industrial investment in Qantara West and reflects the growing international trust in SCZONE as a prime destination for manufacturing and exports. This project contributes a vital segment to our integrated textile and furnishing ecosystem, strengthening the local value chain through the production of home textiles and furniture.”
According to the agreement, 90% of the facility’s output will be designated for export markets, thereby supporting Egypt’s export growth strategies and further elevating the status of SCZONE as a competitive hub for quality manufacturing and regional supply chain connectivity.
Qantara West’s Expanding Investment Portfolio
With the addition of SUN GARDEN, Qantara West now hosts 37 active industrial projects, with total investments surpassing $1 billion and covering more than 2.36 million square meters. These projects have collectively created over 52,705 direct job opportunities in various sectors including textiles, furnishings, logistics, and apparel.
“The zone’s diverse industrial composition builds a robust, export-oriented economic base, supporting Egypt’s national agenda for sustainable growth and localized production,” added Mr. Gamal El-Dien.
Part of SCZONE’s Growing German Investor Base
SUN GARDEN’s entry complements a growing list of German investments across SCZONE’s strategic zones. Key German players include:
- Siemens Energy – focused on vocational training and energy services
- Villeroy & Boch Egypt – producers of sanitary ware and porcelain
- MAN Energy Solutions – specialists in turbine and engine maintenance
- Mercedes-Benz Logistics Center – handling vehicle logistics at Sokhna Port
These investments emphasize SCZONE’s role as a key regional and global manufacturing platform, connecting European expertise with African and Middle Eastern markets.
The SUN GARDEN facility is set to begin operations in alignment with SCZONE’s broader vision of strengthening Egypt’s industrial output, increasing export capacity, and attracting sustainable foreign direct investment.
