Indorama Ventures Recycles 150 Billion PET Bottles, Strengthening Circular Economy Commitment

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a global sustainable chemical company, has announced the recycling of over 150 billion post-consumer PET bottles since 2011. This milestone highlights the company’s sustained dedication to circular economy principles and its ongoing investments in global recycling infrastructure.

Operating more than 20 recycling facilities across 11 countries, Indorama Ventures currently recycles around 789 PET bottles per second. These bottles are processed into high-quality recycled PET (rPET) resins and other circular materials, which are utilized across multiple industries, supporting both the company’s and its customers’ sustainability targets.

The company’s recycling progress has steadily accelerated over the years. After reaching 50 billion bottles recycled in March 2020, Indorama Ventures doubled the number to 100 billion in 2023, and has now achieved the 150 billion mark. This rapid growth reflects rising global demand for recycled materials and the company’s strategic focus on infrastructure, innovation, and partnerships.

Yash Lohia, Executive President of Petchem and Chairman of the ESG Council, stated:

“Recycling 150 billion PET bottles is more than a number—it represents the collective impact of people, purpose, and technology. We thank our consumers, partners, and customers for enabling this achievement. It underscores the importance of long-term strategy and collaboration in driving sustainable progress.”

This achievement brings substantial environmental and social benefits. The recycling of 150 billion bottles has helped prevent approximately 3.8 million tons of CO₂ emissions and diverted 2.8 million tons of plastic waste from landfills and natural ecosystems.

Indorama Ventures’ recycling model is built around three core pillars: education, collection, and innovation. Through its Waste Hero education program, the company has already reached nearly 1 million individuals globally, raising awareness and encouraging responsible recycling behaviors. By collaborating with a broad network of collection partners, Indorama ensures a stable flow of high-quality post-consumer PET. Meanwhile, ongoing partnerships with technology providers enhance recycling efficiency and minimize environmental footprint.

As demand for recycled content continues to grow, Indorama Ventures reaffirms its commitment to expanding recycling capacity, investing in advanced solutions, and working closely with value chain partners to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
