Egypt is set to strengthen its position as a regional textile manufacturing hub as GID Textile Egypt Group unveiled ambitious expansion plans aimed at doubling exports and increasing production capacity across the country.
During a meeting held on June 16, 2026, Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met with Selim Şankaya, CEO of GID Textile Egypt Group, to discuss the company’s investment roadmap and its strategy to expand manufacturing operations while accelerating export growth.The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Industry, reviewed the company’s current operations and future investment plans as GID Textile Egypt continues to expand its presence in the country.
GID Textile Egypt Plans New Investments and Factory Expansion
Operating in Egypt since 2008, GID Textile Egypt currently runs three manufacturing facilities located in Borg El Arab, 10th of Ramadan City, and Ismailia, employing approximately 15,000 workers.The company plans to expand production capacity at its existing factories while establishing new manufacturing facilities to support export-oriented growth.
GID aims to increase exports to $285 million by the end of 2026, with a long-term target of $500 million by 2029–2030 through the gradual commissioning of new factories and full utilization of its production network.
The expansion strategy also prioritizes sustainable manufacturing, including environmentally friendly textile dyeing technologies and the production of advanced, high-performance polyester fabrics.

Egypt Prioritizes Textile Manufacturing and Circular Economy
Minister Khaled Hashem reaffirmed that the spinning, weaving and ready-made garments sectors remain strategic priorities under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting manufacturers, increasing local value addition and enhancing the global competitiveness of Egyptian textile exports.
During the discussions, the minister also welcomed GID Textile Egypt’s proposal to attract Turkish companies specializing in textile waste recycling to establish operations in Egypt. The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to localize advanced recycling technologies and promote circular economy practices within the textile sector.
Hashem noted that expanding textile recycling capabilities would contribute to Egypt’s sustainability objectives while creating new industrial investment opportunities. The Ministry of Industry expressed its readiness to facilitate cooperation between international recycling technology providers and the Egyptian textile industry.
For his part, Selim Şankaya praised the Egyptian government’s efforts to improve the investment climate and support industrial development, describing Egypt as a strategic manufacturing and export base for the group. He said the planned expansion will enable GID Textile Egypt to significantly strengthen its export performance while supporting the country’s ambition to become one of the region’s leading textile production centers.
