Gaziantep-based textile and carpet manufacturer Balat Mensucat has further strengthened its production capabilities with the acquisition of a new Colaris digital printing line from Zimmer Austria. The installation marks the company’s third investment in Zimmer’s digital printing technology, underlining a clear long-term strategy toward advanced and flexible carpet production.
The new system is currently being prepared for shipment from Austria and will soon be installed at Balat’s production facilities in Gaziantep—one of Türkiye’s most important hubs for machine-made carpet manufacturing.
A Strategic Investment in Digital Carpet Printing
Balat Mensucat’s latest investment reflects a broader transformation within the carpet industry, where manufacturers are increasingly shifting toward digital printing technologies to enhance design flexibility, reduce lead times, and respond faster to market demands.
Zimmer Austria’s Colaris systems are recognized for their ability to deliver high-resolution printing, efficient color management, and consistent production quality across various textile applications, including carpets and home textiles. By expanding its digital printing capacity, Balat Mensucat is positioning itself to better compete in international markets where customization and speed are becoming critical competitive factors.
Confidence in the Turkish Market
Commenting on the development, Andreas Rass, CEO of Zimmer Austria, emphasized the long-term importance of Türkiye as a key market:
“The Turkish market has always been a strong and highly promising market for us, particularly in the field of digital textile printing. Despite the fluctuations in the global economy, investments such as this clearly demonstrate that the textile and carpet industry in Türkiye is deeply rooted and cannot be overlooked. We will continue to strengthen our presence in Türkiye and remain fully committed to supporting our customers in this market.”
Türkiye’s Strategic Role in Global Textile Production
Josef Osl, Marketing Director at Zimmer Austria, also highlighted Türkiye’s growing importance in the global textile ecosystem:
“With more than 150 years of experience in textile printing technologies, Zimmer Austria is recognized as a global leader in this field. We are very pleased to continue expanding our presence in Türkiye, which remains one of the most important textile and carpet markets worldwide. Türkiye’s strategic location and its role as a key supplier to European markets make it an essential partner in the global textile industry. Turkish manufacturers consistently invest in reliable and advanced technologies to maintain high product quality. We look forward to meeting our partners, industry professionals, and investors at ITM 2026 in Istanbul — Hall 4, Booth 404C.”
From Tradition to Technology: A Multi-Generational Industry Player
With a history dating back to the 1940s, Balat Mensucat represents one of the established textile families in Gaziantep. Over decades, the company has evolved from traditional weaving operations into a modern industrial producer with diversified capabilities, including machine-made carpets, yarn dyeing, and advanced textile manufacturing.
Today, the company exports its products to more than 30 countries, supported by a strong production infrastructure and a growing portfolio of brands, including its Raschel-based carpet solutions.
Strengthening Türkiye’s Position in Digital Carpet Production
This latest installation not only reinforces Balat Mensucat’s production capacity but also highlights Türkiye’s ongoing role as a key center for innovation in machine-made carpet manufacturing.
As global demand shifts toward more flexible, design-driven, and fast-response production models, investments in digital printing technologies are expected to accelerate across the sector. Partnerships between technology providers such as Zimmer Austria and established manufacturers like Balat Mensucat are playing a critical role in shaping this transition.

A Continued Commitment to Innovation
The repeat investment in Zimmer Austria’s technology signals a high level of confidence in digital solutions as a long-term growth driver. It also reflects a wider industry trend in which leading producers are prioritizing technology upgrades over traditional capacity expansion, aiming to remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic global market.
