Vietnam Attracts $1 Billion Swedish Investment for World’s First Circular Textile Hub

In a key meeting, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chinh met with Susanna Campbell, Chair of Swedish textile recycling firm SYRE, and Swedish Ambassador Johan Ndisi. He urged the company to invest in Vietnam’s textile sector, focusing on sustainability and green energy. The meeting showcased Vietnam’s strong commitment to sustainable economic growth and environmental innovation.

Binh Dinh: A Strategic Investment Destination

The proposed project is to be established in Binh Dinh province, a region praised for its excellent infrastructure including an international airport and a deep-water seaport. Prime Minister Chinh described the location as strategic and encouraged SYRE to capitalize on Vietnam’s surplus textile materials and waste to develop eco-friendly, high-tech products.

SYRE’s Vision: Circular Economy and Green Transition

Susanna Campbell emphasized that SYRE aims to support Vietnam’s transformation into a global hub for circular textile production. Their model, which converts recycled materials into high-quality textile outputs, fits perfectly into Vietnam’s ambition to become a leader in green manufacturing and innovation. The planned US$1 billion investment is aligned with EU and US sustainability standards.

Vietnam’s Commitment to Net-Zero and Clean Energy

Prime Minister Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s proactive steps toward renewable energy leadership in Southeast Asia. He highlighted the country’s dedication to the COP26–28 agreements, green production models, and a broader circular economy. Việt Nam is seeking global partnerships in technology, capital, and human resources to realize these goals.

Sweden Backs Vietnam’s Green Journey

Ambassador Ndisi expressed Sweden’s firm support for Vietnam’s green transformation. He noted that Swedish companies are increasingly considering Vietnam as a long-term partner for sustainable investments and emphasized the importance of elevating bilateral relations to a higher strategic level.
