Tunisia has unveiled a new long-term strategy to transform its textile and clothing industry by 2036, with a strong focus on innovation, value-added production, and specialization.
Tunisia’s 2036 Vision Focuses on High-Value Textile Manufacturing
Speaking on Express FM on June 22, 2026, Haithem Bouajila, President of the Tunisian Federation of Textile and Clothing Industry, outlined the sector’s strategic vision aimed at reinforcing textiles as a key pillar of the national economy while strengthening Tunisia’s position in global markets.
According to Bouajila, the strategy represents a major shift away from competing primarily on low production costs toward a business model driven by innovation, higher value-added products, and specialized manufacturing.
Technical Textiles Drive the 2036 Vision
A central objective of the roadmap is to establish Tunisia as a leading Euro-Mediterranean hub for technical textiles, medical textiles, and other high-value textile products, capitalizing on growing international demand for advanced textile solutions.
The strategy is built around three key priorities: increasing value addition across the supply chain, expanding specialization in advanced textile segments, and reinforcing the industry’s strategic positioning to better respond to changing global market conditions.

Global Supply Chain Shifts Create New Opportunities
Bouajila noted that ongoing changes in the global economy have transformed supply chains, sourcing strategies, and the procurement priorities of major international brands. He emphasized that these shifts present significant opportunities for Tunisia to strengthen its role in the regional and international textile industry.
He added that Tunisia’s strategic geographic location, established industrial expertise, and long-standing commercial relationships with European markets provide a solid foundation for achieving the country’s 2036 vision and enhancing its competitiveness in the global textile sector.
