Soft-Tex takes over Reactex intellectual property

Soft-Tex International has completed merger with the personal climate control joint venture, Reactex Technology Group, and taken over all Reactex intellectual property. This highlights the company’s renewed strategic focus on innovation. The Reactex portfolio of intellectual property includes over 100 patented and patents-pending innovative technologies.

Bringing Reactex technology under a single entity will hasten the expansion of Soft-Tex’s development, engineering, and production capabilities as well as expedite the commercialisation of new product to Soft-Tex’s growing customer base.

As part of the transaction, Mark Smiderle, the inventor of Reactex technology, has been appointed to the Soft-Tex board of directors and will lead Soft-Tex’s global innovation efforts, including continued development of Reactex technology. Scott Thayer will continue to lead Reactex business development efforts.

“Through acquiring all of the Reactex technology, Soft-Tex is not just a leading supplier of bedding and memory foam product anymore — we’re now an innovation company focused on developing transformative comfort-based technologies commercialised for use in many retail sectors,” said Jeff Chilton, Soft-Tex chief executive officer.

“We are excited to launch several collections of bedding products powered by Reactex technology in over 1,250 major retail stores this spring and summer and concurrently are looking ahead to our aggressive expansion of Reactex to partners in three key sectors including: furniture and mattress retail, healthcare and medical device, and international markets,” said Scott Thayer, divisional vice president for Reactex.

The Reactex portfolio of intellectual property includes over 100 patents and patents-pending on innovative technologies formulated to control heat energy flow and storage to create a customer’s unique ideal personal climate. Functioning like a battery, Reactex technologies can store and release heat to provide overnight cooling or heating through pressure activation. The technology is self-recharging when not in use.

Through this merger, Soft-Tex will also gain dedicated Reactex research and development and production facilities built at Soft-Tex’s Albany, NY-area headquarters which will facilitate further innovation and production of new product lines and will add new jobs for production and engineering.
