ADVA®terra: ADVANSA Launches Biodegradable Polyester Fibre for Eco-Friendly Home Textiles

As global concern over synthetic textile pollution and microplastic accumulation in landfills and oceans continues to rise, initiatives like Plastic Free July and World Nature Conservation Day (July 28) are calling for urgent action. In response, ADVANSA is proud to highlight ADVA®terra – a polyester filling fibre that is made from 100% recycled materials, fully recyclable and biodegradable.

Comfort Meets Sustainability

Developed for use in pillows, duvets, and mattresses, ADVA®terra offers a unique combination of comfort, durability, and breathability while maintaining the convenience of being machine-washable and dryer-safe. What sets the fibre apart is its proven ability to biodegrade in both landfill and marine environments, providing a practical answer to the challenge of synthetic textile waste.

Independent laboratory tests (ASTM D5511 / D6691) confirm that ADVA®terra achieves:

  • Over 90% degradation in landfill conditions within two years
  • More than 85% degradation in marine environments within five years

These results are comparable to the breakdown rates of natural fibres, making ADVA®terra a viable alternative to traditional synthetic fillings that often escape recycling systems and contribute to global microplastic pollution.

Certified Responsibility

To ensure full transparency and environmental integrity, ADVA®terra is certified by OEKO-TEX®, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and is REACH compliant. This guarantees responsible sourcing, traceability, and adherence to strict sustainability standards across the entire production process.

By introducing ADVA®terra, ADVANSA empowers textile brands and manufacturers to respond to growing consumer demand for eco-conscious products, offering comfort with a reduced environmental footprint.

Addressing a Global Challenge

Despite increasing efforts, textile recycling at scale remains limited, and large volumes of polyester products still end up in landfills or enter oceans as microplastics through fibre shedding during washing. With ADVA®terra, ADVANSA contributes to solving this pressing issue by delivering a sustainable fibre option that protects both consumers’ comfort and the planet.
