Turkish textile manufacturer Sanko Group has announced plans to invest approximately $300 million in a new integrated textile manufacturing facility at the Mirsarai Economic Zone in Bangladesh, marking a significant step toward expanding the country’s value-added textile production.
The investment proposal was presented during a meeting between Sanko representatives and Bangladesh Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir in Dhaka. The planned project will include fabric manufacturing, textile processing, and the production of value-added textile products, strengthening Bangladesh’s position as a sourcing destination for leading global apparel brands.
According to Sanko, the company has already identified a suitable project site and held discussions with potential partners. Subject to receiving the necessary regulatory approvals, the next phase of the project is expected to begin within the coming months, while full implementation is projected to be completed 12 to 18 months after construction starts.
To support the investment, Sanko has requested government assistance in ensuring reliable access to natural gas, electricity, and other essential infrastructure. The company also emphasized that the planned facility will adopt coal-free, environmentally friendly technologies in line with international sustainability standards.
Welcoming the proposal, Commerce Minister Abdul Muktadir reaffirmed the Bangladeshi government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors. He noted that the investment is expected to generate employment, facilitate technology transfer, and enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel export sector.
