Oerlikon Barmag Introduces Sustainable Polyester Yarn Production at Garden Silk Mills in India

In a significant development for the textile industry, Oerlikon Barmag has successfully implemented its state-of-the-art WINGS FDY technology at Garden Silk Mills in Surat, India. This milestone further solidifies Oerlikon Barmag’s position as a global leader in supplying manmade fiber plants.

The conversion and expansion of the polyester spinning mill at Garden Silk Mills, now equipped with a total of 216 WINGS FDY spinning units, involved meticulous engineering work conducted in collaboration with experts from Germany and India. This partnership ensured the seamless integration of advanced technology tailored to meet the specific needs of the Indian market.

Georg Stausberg, CEO of Oerlikon Polymer Processing Solutions, expressed delight in equipping Garden Silk Mills with the WINGS FDY technology, emphasizing its potential to produce polyester yarns of the highest quality economically. This achievement underscores Oerlikon Barmag’s commitment to serving both the Indian and global markets with cutting-edge solutions.

The expansion project at Garden Silk Mills marks a significant stride in the textile sector under the leadership of Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, Chairman of The Chatterjee Group (TCG). With investments totaling USD 8 billion globally, TCG is driving innovation and excellence in textile manufacturing, positioning Garden Silk Mills as a beacon of progress.

Utilizing Oerlikon Barmag’s WINGS technology, Garden Silk Mills aims to produce premium FDY yarns sustainably. The WINGS concept optimizes production processes, reduces waste rates, and slashes energy consumption by approximately 30 percent, ensuring high-quality yarns while enhancing operational efficiency.
