Nigeria is stepping up efforts to revitalize its textile industry by seeking new investment opportunities and strengthening regional partnerships with neighboring Benin. Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a high-level delegation to the Republic of Benin to explore strategies for developing Nigeria’s textile and agro-industrial sectors.
The delegation includes six state governors and senior federal government officials and aims to identify successful industrial models that could support Nigeria’s manufacturing and value-added processing ambitions.
Delegation Visits Benin’s Industrial Zone
As part of the investment mission, the Nigerian delegation will visit the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) near Cotonou, a key industrial hub focused on agricultural value addition, export-oriented manufacturing, and modern industrial infrastructure.
The visit is expected to support the implementation of Nigeria’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme while identifying practical measures to strengthen the country’s textile value chain.

Focus on Integrated Textile Manufacturing
A major highlight of the mission is the GDIZ textile park, which brings together the entire cotton value chain, including cotton production, spinning, weaving, fabric processing, and garment manufacturing.
Nigerian officials will assess how the integrated manufacturing model can help boost domestic textile production, increase value addition, and improve the competitiveness of Nigeria’s textile industry.
Technology Transfer and Skills Development
The delegation will also examine opportunities for technology transfer, workforce training, access to modern textile machinery, reliable energy infrastructure, and stronger public-private partnerships.
These areas are considered critical to rebuilding Nigeria’s textile sector and attracting long-term investment into manufacturing.
High-Level Government Participation
Vice President Shettima is accompanied by the governors of Imo, Zamfara, Plateau, Kwara, Katsina, and Jigawa states, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting industrial development and expanding investment across Nigeria’s textile and agro-processing industries.
The mission reflects Nigeria’s broader strategy to strengthen regional cooperation while accelerating industrialization and value-added manufacturing within West Africa.
