Itema Group has officially begun the redevelopment of the historic industrial site in the Seriana Valley, marking a new chapter for the global weaving machinery leader. The company held a ceremonial laying of the First Stone for its upcoming manufacturing hub in Ponte Nossa, on the grounds that once housed Cotonificio Cantoni, which has remained unused since 2004.
Itema acquired the site in July 2022 with a dual mission: to breathe new life into an abandoned mountain area of great industrial heritage and to establish a world-class production hub dedicated to weaving machinery and solutions. The project is designed as a multi-phase industrial requalification plan, with a focus on sustainability, circularity, and production efficiency.
Step 1: New Manufacturing Plant by 2027
The first construction phase, expected to be completed in 2027, will deliver a new plant aimed at enhancing production capacity and efficiency for Itema’s weaving core business.
“In 2022 we took the decision to begin a journey that would lead Itema Group to adapt to turbulent global changes and, at the same time, strengthen our brand as an ambassador of ‘Made in Italy’,” said Ugo Ghilardi, CEO of Itema Group. “This new site in Ponte Nossa completes our industrial presence in Bergamo and Seriana Valley, allowing our historic Colzate site to further develop. Our ambition is to create value for this territory while competing at the highest level of the global textile industry.”
A Sustainable and Strategic Investment
The new hub will integrate the latest technologies in productive and logistic efficiency, while also applying innovative manufacturing principles that align with Itema’s sustainability commitments.
Maurizio Radici, President of the Board of Directors, emphasized: “We are proud to continue our textile journey in Seriana Valley, the cradle of our history, with a project where vision, innovation, and sustainability converge. Our roots are here. This new manufacturing hub represents our investment in a cutting-edge and prosperous future for our territory.”
Future phases of the project will also include developments for Lamiflex SpA, reinforcing Itema Group’s role as a solid industrial entity for Bergamo, for Italy, and for weaving mills worldwide.
