Inditex Reaffirms Commitment to Turkish Suppliers, Rules Out Expansion in Egypt

In a recent high-level meeting held at Inditex’s global headquarters in Spain, the world-renowned fashion retail giant reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to sourcing from Türkiye, one of its most strategic supply markets. The company confirmed it has no plans to reduce its procurement volume from Türkiye and does not intend to expand sourcing from other regional competitors such as Egypt.

Senior Inditex executives, including CEO Oscar Garcia Maceiras, met with key representatives of Türkiye’s textile and apparel export community. Attendees included officials from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Istanbul Apparel Exporters’ Association (İHKİB), Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), and other regional export unions.

During the discussions, Turkish delegates emphasized the importance of maintaining sustainable collaboration in the face of rising operational challenges, particularly in energy, compliance, and certification requirements.

They also underlined the need for stronger institutional cooperation in areas such as production audits and procurement practices.

The Turkish delegation formally invited Inditex’s leadership to visit Türkiye, aiming to further deepen bilateral ties. A follow-up meeting is expected to take place in Türkiye later this year.

Inditex’s procurement from Türkiye currently stands at approximately €2.5 billion, representing over 20% of the group’s global sourcing volume—underscoring the country’s pivotal role in the company’s supply chain.

Meanwhile, sales revenue generated from Inditex brands in Türkiye reached nearly €4 billion, according to the company’s financial statements. The group operates 211 stores across the country, employing more than 6,200 people.

Despite reaffirming its commitment to Türkiye, Inditex has reportedly intensified sustainability and compliance requirements for Turkish suppliers, surpassing the standards applied to other countries in its sourcing network. These heightened expectations were also addressed during the meeting, as stakeholders seek more balanced and collaborative solutions.

The group’s operations in Türkiye include major brands such as Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, Oysho, Massimo Dutti, Zara Home, and the recently launched Lefties, which has expanded to seven stores since entering the market last year.

With Türkiye maintaining its strategic position in global apparel sourcing, this renewed commitment from Inditex is expected to provide confidence and stability for Turkish manufacturers navigating a challenging global trade environment.
