Georgian Sewing Company Present New Uniform Collections at Fabtex Georgia Expo

Mamia Shapakidze / Co-Founder, Georgian Sewing Company

Mamia Shapakidze, co-founder of the Georgian Sewing Company, emphasizes the importance of staying updated on textile innovations and fashion trends in the uniform manufacturing industry. With a focus on providing high-quality uniforms for various sectors, including schools, hotels, and restaurants, Shapakidze highlights the invaluable opportunities presented by industry expos for connecting with manufacturers and accessing new materials.

“At Georgian Sewing Company, we are dedicated to delivering custom-made uniforms for over 30 private schools and approximately 50,000 government officials,” said Shapakidze. “Our partnerships extend to brands that require our specialized services, and we aim to expand our production capacity, currently ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 units per month.”

The company sources most of its textiles from international suppliers in China and Turkey, primarily due to the limited domestic textile manufacturing in Georgia following the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, Shapakidze points out that Georgia’s strategic location between three continents offers significant advantages for the textile industry.

“Thanks to modern technologies, we can communicate effortlessly with clients, whether they are 2,000 kilometres away or just down the street. As long as we have the necessary information and materials, we can provide quality products anywhere in the world,” he added.

Georgia: A Key Gateway for European Textile Deliveries

Despite the challenges of limited local textile production, Shapakidze notes that manufacturing in Georgia can be more efficient for European deliveries compared to sourcing from Southeast Asia. The Georgian government has made significant strides in facilitating trade, simplifying customs processes, and establishing agreements that enhance the country’s role as a re-export hub.

“Georgia has become an easier gateway for companies from Asia to distribute their products to Europe,” Shapakidze stated. “With the ongoing support from the government and advancements in trade agreements, we are optimistic about the future of the textile industry in Georgia.”
