C&Y Garment Factory’s Initiatives for Workers Win Applause From French Ambassador to South Africa

The French Ambassador to South Africa, Christophe Farnaud has lauded Nien Hsing’s C&Y Garment factory in Lesotho for the initiatives taken to improve the health of its workers.

While emphasising on the same, the ambassador added that France and Lesotho have always been close allies and will continue to encourage medical cooperation between both countries.

Mobile Clinics Support Workplace Health Programs

During his visit to the factory, the French ambassador was accompanied by Hon. Nkakukabi, Lesotho Minister of Health and Hon. Phohleli, Deputy Minister of Health. There were also representatives from The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to  analyse the use of mobile clinics, as a part of the Work Place Health Program.

The mobile testing clinics enable the garment workers to have access to on-site free testing during working hours in addition to counselling on other related diseases.

The firm, with more than 10,000 workers in its Lesotho unit, has always prioritised the health and safety of garment workers. The company has been providing health and safety training such as HIV prevention, sexual harassment and safety in the workplace on a regular basis.

The Work Place Health Program, launched by The Lesotho Ministry of Health and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, focuses on providing a complete package of healthcare services to garment workers and their close relatives.
