7th India International Silk Fair concludes; exhibitors expected more buyers

International Silk Fair

The 7th India International Silk Fair, organised by the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council, concluded today at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Around 65 participants from across India showcased their latest collections of garments and fabrics in the three-day show.

Some of the exhibitors specialised in silk products only, while there were few who displayed regular garments and accessories. Scarves and stoles, in particular, were the dominating product categories in the show.

Though the organisers had claimed that around 250 overseas buyers from 47 countries will visit the show, as per exhibitors the buyer footfall was merely satisfactory, and not up to their expectations.

Talking to Apparel Resources, Alakananda Das, Founder of The Silk Concept (Assam) said, “We met potential buyers from Turkey and Sri Lanka. They appreciated our products and we are hopeful of getting some business from them in future.”

She further added that more buyers’ visitation was expected. Silk Concept specialises in Eri silk and offers innovative products.

Displaying variety of scarves and stoles, KK Global Exports, Noida, too met few buyers but they were quite small with requirement for just 10-20 pieces. Representing KK Global, Aditya maintained that his company’s MOQ is around 300 pieces.

Similarly, another exhibitor, Gyatri Impex’s Ramesh Goyal was not happy with the limited buyer visitation.

“There is hardly any new buyer in the show,” said Ramesh.
