For the first time in years, Syria has made an official return to the Gulf’s textile scene by participating in the Jeddah International Fashion and Textile Fair. The event, which opened yesterday and runs until September 28, brings together more than 550 companies from 25 countries. Representing Syria’s textile and apparel industry, 27 companies showcased their latest collections and production capabilities.
According to Mohammed Ayman Al-Mulawi, Chairman of the Damascus and Countryside Chamber of Industry, the participation marks a strategic milestone for Syria’s textile sector:
“This exhibition offers us a long-awaited opportunity to reconnect with Gulf markets. Our Textile Council members have worked tirelessly to lay the foundation for this success,” he told SANA.
Al-Mulawi also highlighted that the event is expected to pave the way for new export contracts, while future participation could expand beyond textiles to include Syria’s chemical, engineering, and food industries.
The Syrian pavilion attracted notable attention on the opening day, with Saad bin Meshal Al-Otaibi, Board Member of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, praising the quality of products on display and the professional organization of the stand.
The fair aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, which emphasizes the rapid development of the textile and fashion sector as a driver of economic diversification. For Syrian exhibitors, the platform not only revives their Gulf presence but also creates valuable opportunities for regional partnerships and market expansion.
