NCCU US Textile Program Secures Gap, Icon 360- $ 100,000 Grant

The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) textile and apparel program has secured a $ 100,000 boost from Icon360, a non-profit subsidiary of clothing company Gap and its partner Harlem’s Fashion Row.

The grant will be used to improve the educational infrastructure, including the latest technology and equipment, and will provide two students with a $ 10,000 scholarship.

This grant will also help build relationships with Harlem fashion law and GAP and encourage students to participate in experiential learning.

NCCU is part of the Closing the Gap initiative, providing financial support for 10 fashion programs at the Historically Black Colleges and Technology (HBCU), enhancing educational opportunities for the next generation of African-American fashion leaders, and African-American. It provides a platform that attracts fashion students.

“The prestigious Icon 360 x GAP award has a huge impact on our category,” he said. The funding announcement will be made shortly after the program’s annual fashion design competition. The contest was supported by textile companies Spoonflower and Implus, which provide students with design materials such as custom cotton fabrics and shoelaces. Additional financial support from Cotton provided awards to students who were awarded the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the contest’s new “Best of Cotton” category.
