Interview with FILOMENA SANNINO MILANO FASHION & JEWELS EXHIBITION MANAGER
In today’s rapidly evolving fashion landscape, exhibitions are no longer just about showcasing products—they are about creating ecosystems. In this exclusive interview,FILOMENA SANNINO, MILANO FASHION & JEWELS EXHIBITION MANAGER, shares insights into how Milano Fashion&Jewels is redefining its role within the global fashion and textile industry.
Positioning & Strategy: From Exhibition to Industry Hub
Milano Fashion&Jewels is positioned as a central component of the broader Fashion Link Milano platform. According to Sannino, this integration significantly enhances the value for both exhibitors and buyers.
“The integration with Fashion Link Milano, alongside TheOneMilano, transforms the exhibition into a strategic hub for industry professionals,” she explains. “For international operators, the main advantage is efficiency. In a single trip, they can explore the entire fashion system—from jewelry and accessories to footwear and leather goods.”
With key events such as MICAM, MIPEL, Lineapelle, and Simac Tanning Tech taking place simultaneously, the Milan exhibition calendar offers a synchronized experience that allows professionals to cover multiple sectors in one visit—something standalone exhibitions often fail to achieve.
Market Trends: The Rise of Storytelling-Driven Retail
Consumer behavior is changing—and so is the role of buyers. According to Sannino, modern retail is no longer centered around products alone.
“Today, retail is about narratives. Buyers are no longer just selecting items—they are curating stories,” she notes.
This shift is clearly reflected in the structure of Milano Fashion&Jewels. By bringing together jewelry, fashion, and accessories within the same space, the exhibition enables buyers to build cohesive, lifestyle-driven collections. The integration with upstream events such as Lineapelle also allows professionals to select materials that support authenticity—an increasingly important factor for today’s consumers.
International Expansion: Targeting Emerging Markets
Milano Fashion&Jewels continues to strengthen its international footprint, with approximately 40% of exhibitors coming from outside Italy, including markets such as China, India, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Türkiye.
Visitor internationality is also significant, reaching around 33%, supported by Milan’s global appeal and the synergy between co-located events.
“Our strategy focuses on targeted incoming programs from high-potential regions,” Filomena Sannino explains. “We are actively working with markets such as South Africa, East Africa, Japan, the CIS region, and the GCC countries.”
Special initiatives, including collaborations like Milano Love Seoul, further strengthen cultural exchange while expanding the exhibition’s global reach.
Cross-Sector Synergies: Real Business Opportunities
One of the defining strengths of Fashion Link Milano is its cross-sector synergy. This approach has already demonstrated strong results.
“In February 2026, the platform welcomed over 46,000 visitors from more than 150 countries,” Sannino reveals. “This confirms the effectiveness of an integrated exhibition model.”
From a business perspective, the ability to combine outerwear from TheOneMilano with jewelry and accessories from Milano Fashion&Jewels allows buyers to create complete collections directly at the fair.
Projects such as the “Beyond Body” exhibition, curated by Alba Cappellieri, further illustrate how creativity and commerce can coexist—blending artistic inspiration with real market relevance.
Sustainability & Innovation: From Concept to Practice
Sustainability is no longer optional—it is a core expectation. Milano Fashion&Jewels addresses this through dedicated initiatives such as the area curated by Exploring Sustainable Fashion.
“This space focuses on collections developed with responsible materials and ethical production methods,” Sannino explains.
At the same time, innovation is supported through projects like Design Directions, developed in collaboration with Poli.design. These curated trend areas provide valuable guidance for both buyers and exhibitors, helping them align with future market expectations.
Future Vision: Toward a Complete Fashion Sourcing Hub
Looking ahead, Milano Fashion&Jewels is evolving beyond a traditional exhibition format into a comprehensive sourcing platform.
“The September 2026 edition represents a consolidation phase, preparing for further expansion in 2027,” Sannino says.
A key focus is the development of Fashion Sourcing, in collaboration with ReadyToShow. This initiative aims to connect designers and retailers with production partners, enabling the creation of private label collections and customized manufacturing solutions.
“Our vision is to create a complete hub where design, sourcing, and production coexist,” she adds. “In the coming years, Milano Fashion&Jewels will not only be a place to buy—but a place to build collections from the ground up.”
