Madhya Pradesh Courts Inditex For Textile Investments, Showcasing Sustainability And Growth Potential

On the second day of his official visit to Spain, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav held strategic discussions with senior executives of Inditex, the world’s largest fashion retailer and owner of Zara, at the company’s headquarters in Galicia. The meeting aimed to position Madhya Pradesh (MP) as a green, cost-competitive, and traceable textile production hub, inviting Inditex to explore investment opportunities in the state’s growing textile ecosystem.

Dr. Yadav spotlighted the upcoming PM Mitra Textile Park in Dhar district — a key project under India’s flagship initiative to develop world-class textile parks. He presented it as an ideal location for Inditex to establish a sustainable, integrated garment manufacturing unit, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and green manufacturing capabilities.
The Chief Minister also proposed collaboration in organic cotton production within the Nimar and Malwa regions, home to numerous GOTS-certified farmer groups. He advocated for developing a comprehensive ‘Farmer-to-Fabric’ value chain that aligns with Inditex’s ambitious sustainability goals.

Emphasizing Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) standards, Dr. Yadav outlined initiatives on water recycling, waste management, and decent work standards. Inditex executives, including Jose M. Romayé and Martha Francos Rey, lauded the state’s ESG model, describing it as a potential global benchmark for sustainable and inclusive governance.

Dr. Yadav further detailed the state’s Industrial and Export Policy 2025, offering attractive incentives such as:

  • 90% subsidy on land costs
  • 40% capital support for machinery
  • 50% aid for adopting green technologies
  • Interest subsidies on loans

Currently, Madhya Pradesh exports textiles and garments worth over ₹7,000 crore ($812 million) annually, with the European Union being a key market. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that a partnership with Inditex could elevate exports to ₹10,000 crore ($1.16 billion), fostering job creation, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development.

Dr. Yadav concluded by inviting Inditex to act as a supply chain anchor at the PM Mitra Park and to collaborate on launching an organic cotton tracing platform and a vendor development programme for ESG-certified MSMEs.

“We are ready to support this partnership at all levels,” Dr. Yadav affirmed.
