Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone Makes First Export of ‘Made in Benin’ Garments for U.S. Polo Assn.

The Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) has successfully exported its first shipment of ready-to-wear clothing for the renowned American brand, U.S. Polo Assn. This milestone marks a significant achievement in Benin’s integration into global supply chains for the fashion and textile industries.

The shipment, which includes hooded sweatshirts, polos, and t-shirts, is destined for the European market through a collaboration with INCOM S.P.A., the European license holder for U.S. Polo Assn. This partnership is expected to generate more than one million pieces over the coming years.

Mr. Létondji Beheton, Managing Director of the Société d’Investissement et de Promotion de l’Industrie (SIPI-Benin), highlighted the importance of this achievement, stating, “This first export is a source of pride for GDIZ and Benin as a whole. It demonstrates our growing ability to produce high-quality textiles that meet international standards.”

Francesco Gozzini, Production Director at INCOM Italy, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, emphasizing the quality of Benin’s textile industry and the promising future of this partnership.

This latest development follows GDIZ’s previous shipments for international brands such as The Children’s Place and KIABI, further establishing Benin as a key player in Africa’s textile production.
