Nigeria’s fashion sector continues its rapid expansion, contributing approximately $6.1 billion to the nation’s GDP in 2024, as rising consumer demand for quality, exclusivity, and craftsmanship reshapes the industry. This growth is being driven by both the entry of international fashion brands and the rise of Nigerian luxury designers.
At the forefront of this trend is the recent launch of UK-based luxury brand Dune London in Lagos. The store opening was led by John Onyeguzoro, CEO of SmartMark Limited and local franchisee for Dune London. Speaking at the event, Onyeguzoro highlighted the evolving expectations of Nigerian fashion consumers.
“Nigerians have a discerning eye for fashion,” Onyeguzoro said. “They seek not just style, but also quality and authenticity. While status and premium branding remain important, today’s consumers prioritize value, ethical production, and true craftsmanship.”
He emphasized Dune London’s 133-year heritage and global reputation for quality. “We are proud to bring Dune London to Nigeria in a way that’s both aspirational and accessible,” he said. “SmartMark is committed to offering premium products at prices that allow more people to enjoy high-end fashion without excessive cost.”
Actor and fashion influencer Denrele Edun, also present at the event, praised the growing sophistication of Nigerian fashion. “We’re no longer just following global trends—we’re setting them. Fashion here has become a bold form of cultural and personal expression,” he said.
Collaborations on the Horizon
Onyeguzoro also spoke about the potential for cross-cultural design collaborations between Dune London and Nigerian designers. “Fashion is global,” he noted. “What resonates in the UK resonates here too. Collaborations between Dune and local designers could bring something unique and exciting to the market.”
With this expansion, Dune London joins the growing list of global brands investing in Nigeria’s fashion landscape. The Lagos store aims to become a hub for fashion-forward consumers seeking stylish, affordable luxury footwear and accessories.
As local and international brands continue to intersect, Nigeria’s fashion industry is not only contributing to economic growth but also redefining the meaning of fashion in Africa—blending global sophistication with local creativity.
