International Istanbul Furniture Fair Showcases Turkey’s Design-Driven Transformation

The International Istanbul Furniture Fair (IIFF) once again positions itself as a strategic global platform highlighting the transformation of Türkiye’s furniture industry, with a strong emphasis on design, quality, and sustainability. Held at TÜYAP between 27–31 January, the fair brings together the full ecosystem of the furniture sector, welcoming manufacturers, designers, exporters, academics, and international buyers under one roof.

A key highlight of this year’s edition is “A Good Idea”, a strategic platform established in 2024 by the Furniture Manufacturers and Exporters Association (MOBDER). Located in Hall 2 at TÜYAP, the initiative reflects a collective vision to strengthen Türkiye’s international competitiveness through design management, sectoral communication, and value-oriented growth strategies.

After its first appearance at IIFF last year, A Good Idea returns as a central meeting point, featuring sectoral exhibitions, curated presentations by leading figures, and projects that bridge heritage with contemporary furniture practices. The platform also includes collaborative works developed with third-year students from Bahçeşehir University’s Department of Industrial Product Design, reinforcing the connection between industry and academia.

A Strategic Focus on Design, Quality, and Sustainability

Positioned as a long-term transformation initiative, A Good Idea aims to shape the future of the Turkish furniture industry through collective action. By aligning growth with local values and sustainability principles, the platform supports a value-driven approach to industrial development—one that prioritizes quality, responsible production, and international design standards.

In parallel, A Good Idea: LAB, the platform’s permanent physical and production space, has been operating since November at Skyland HOM. Spanning 230 square meters, the LAB serves as a hub for architects, designers, manufacturers, decorators, media, academic institutions, NGOs, and public bodies. Through its physical and digital archive, the LAB promotes transparency, knowledge continuity, and cross-sector collaboration via workshops, research initiatives, and think-tank studies.

The platform features participation from a wide range of prominent Turkish furniture brands, underlining the industry’s collective commitment to innovation and global positioning.

With initiatives like A Good Idea at its core, IIFF continues to evolve beyond a traditional trade fair, emerging as a comprehensive ecosystem where design, sustainability, and industrial strategy converge—reinforcing Istanbul’s role as a leading international furniture hub.
