Afghanistan Announces Growth in Manufacturing Sector as Number of Factories Reaches 6,000

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan has announced a significant expansion in the country’s industrial sector, confirming that the number of active manufacturing factories has risen from 3,500 to 6,000 units in recent years. This growth marks one of the most notable developments in Afghanistan’s domestic production capacity since 2020.

Afghanistan Announces Growth in Manufacturing Sector as Number of Factories Reaches 6,000

According to the Ministry, the sharp increase reflects the strengthening of Afghanistan’s industrial activities, enhanced domestic production, and a growing alignment between government initiatives and private-sector investment aimed at revitalizing the national economy.

Officials emphasized that the expansion of factories has contributed to a reduction in import dependency, enabling local industries to meet a larger portion of domestic demand. The Ministry highlighted that the development spans several key sectors, including:

  • Textiles and apparel
  • Food and beverage manufacturing
  • Construction materials
  • Small and medium-sized industrial production

These advancements, they noted, have created new employment opportunities and increased investor confidence in Afghanistan’s industrial landscape.

The Ministry further stated that the rising number of factories is a sign of relative economic stability and demonstrates renewed trust from both local and regional investors. This momentum is expected to attract additional investment into Afghanistan’s manufacturing and processing industries.

In its statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting industrial growth through ongoing development programs, regulatory improvements, and targeted incentives. The government aims to further increase domestic production and expand Afghanistan’s presence in regional and global markets, particularly through export-oriented industrial strategies.

With continued support from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Afghanistan is positioning itself to strengthen its industrial base and enhance long-term economic sustainability.
