There were 37 years between the first edition of the biggest event in Spanish fashion and the 76th MBFWMadrid, which ended last Sunday after attracting large audiences and much public acclaim. All the fashion shows were completely sold out, and all 40,000 tickets for the social area of the Cibelespacio were snapped up on the day they went on sale on the official website.
Enthusiasm, talent, and FASHION flooded MBFWMadrid for five days in September 2022 at an extravaganza organised by IFEMA MADRID with support from Madrid City Council.
A total of 41 designers made up the official programme of MBFWMadrid, confirming its status as Spain’s number one fashion event.
On Wednesday, the off programme started with presentations by García Madrid, María Lafuente, Félix Ramiro, Roberto Verino, Odette Álvarez, Pilar Dalbat, Nicolás Montenegro, Paloma Suárez, and Rafael Urquízar. Then, on 13 September, the ESNE University School took to the catwalk. Back at headquarters in Hall 14.1 of IFEMA MADRID, an exciting cast of established designers took centre stage on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with their latest collections.
The featured creators were Andrés Sarda, Duyos, Redondo Brand, JCpajares, Malne, Pedro del Hierro, Maison Mesa, Dolores Cortés, Isabel Sanchís, Hannibal Laguna, Duarte, Álvaro Calafat, Teresa Helbig, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Aurelia Gil, Fely Campo, Ulises Mérida, Claro Couture, Custo Barcelona, Lola Casademunt by Maite, and Roberto Diz. Then, on Sunday, 18 September, ten emerging designers got their first big break on the Allianz EGO catwalk with their creative, ground-breaking proposals: Evade House (Allianz EGO Confidence in Fashion prize winner in March 2022), Corsicana, Mush, Arturo De La Rosa, Boltad, Kollapse, Crack, David Moss, Xvstrange and Datuna (guest designer from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tbilisi).
The most versatile venue on the entire international circuit
One aspect that stood out in this edition was the creativity in terms of the setting and staging. The Mercedes-Benz runway in Hall 14.1 at IFEMA MADRID has been upgraded to improve visibility. In addition, it has proven more versatile than ever, transforming the stage to suit the theme of each show.
From showcasing fashion inspired by all aspects of the film world to hosting a ballet performance, a trip through Italy by Sofia Loren with a live soundtrack, and a stage in Ancient Greece, there were many beautiful settings in this edition.
Media support
Over a thousand national and international journalists were there to report on the runway shows, keeping media attention high throughout the week. The 41 runway shows got excellent coverage, as did the designers and the kissing room. Other aspects, such as technical management, casting and production, and the backstage dressing rooms, were also featured in the media.
In addition, this year RTVE was the official media organisation of fashion week, and ¡HOLA TV! was the official international television of the event.
Awards at the 76th edition of MBFWMadrid
On Saturday, the Paris L’Oréal Prize for the best collection was awarded to Ulises Mérida, who returned to his roots with an ode to survival. This time the Paris L’Oréal Prize for the best model was won by curvy model Lorena Durán.
The winners of the third edition of the Allianz EGO Confidence in Fashion Award were announced at the opening ceremony on Sunday. This time it went to Reparto, in recognition of the evolution of the project materialised into a more mature, viable discourse.
