During the 1940s, people from the small town of Ksar Hellal began recovering threads from tents and parachutes left from the Second World War. At its creation, Sartex employed 27 people. Over the following decades, the company’s vision and production capabilities continued to expand. By 2010, the second generation of the Zarrad family was leading a business employing around 3,600 people, continuing the vision established by the previous generation.

In 2015, the business was reorganised into two integrated entities. Denim House became responsible for purchasing, fabric warehousing and testing, automated cutting and sewing, while Sartex focused on washing, dyeing, special treatments and finishing. Together, the two entities cover the garment manufacturing process from sourcing and product development to the final finishing and packaging stages.

Today, Sartex Group specialises in jeanswear and sportswear products including jeans, chinos, cargo trousers, jackets, overalls and other denim garments. Its then owner, Lee Cooper International, founded the company in 1974 in Tunisia for the production – cutting, assembly, washing and finishing – of the jeans brand, for which it was the only production site in the early 1980s. From the mid-1990s onwards, thanks to an investment programme and an enhanced R&D strategy, the plant was able to produce collections with more complex, elaborate and diverse treatments, washes and finishing.

Building on these strengthened skills, the company opened up and proposed its services to new brands. Lee Cooper Tunisia thus became Denim Authority in 2005 and developed new structures – commercial, model-making and designing – as well as a complete research laboratory to meet the needs of its clients.

In 2010, a change of ownership led to a new era: Denim Authority now conducts business in all markets and with denim brands, and offers an expanded, creative and innovative range of products and know-how. The company also provides its customers with a research laboratory to perfect collaborative developments and continually provide new ideas.

For expansion and development, SOSATEX changed its location and name to BETEX in 2003 and settled in Ksar Hellal in the same area of Monastir. The earlier company profile reported 120 employees in a production space of 1,200 m².

BETEX has a young and qualified workforce with experience in the manufacture of clothing for women and children in knitwear and woven fabrics. With its technology and staff skills, the company began co-contracting and producing finished products and developed significant garment production capabilities.
