Oriental Weavers, the world’s largest manufacturer of machine-made carpets, attended Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles 2025 as part of its strategy to explore new opportunities in the Asian and international flooring market.
In an interview during the exhibition, Mr. Mohamed Salah, USA Sales Manager at Oriental Weavers, highlighted the company’s global reach and future ambitions.
“Oriental Weavers is part of the Oriental Group, the largest machine-made carpet manufacturer worldwide with over 200 machines in operation,” Salah explained. “Our group also includes MAC, which focuses on tufted carpets, and EFCO, which handles non-woven production. Today, we export to more than 118 countries, including the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the MENA region.”
Evaluating Intertextile Shanghai
Oriental Weavers joined Intertextile Shanghai upon invitation from Messe Frankfurt to assess the potential of the show for the flooring segment.
“My impression is very positive,” Salah noted. “The exhibition is well-organized, with a strong diversity of textile suppliers and design houses that bring real value to the market. While rugs are still a small segment compared to textiles, I see strong potential here. I hope future editions will dedicate more space to carpets and flooring.”
Market Trends and Challenges
Discussing the global market outlook, Salah pointed to ongoing uncertainties in trade and tariffs impacting international supply chains:
“The year started strongly, but tariffs between China, India, and Europe created instability that affected consumer confidence and reduced sales, especially in the US market. Fortunately, since July, we have started to see signs of slow recovery.”
Oriental Weavers continues to adapt by developing products that match evolving consumer demand. “Washable and utility rugs are trending strongly in the US, alongside entry-level machine-made products for online sales. At the same time, higher-end rugs made of wool and viscose are performing well in furniture stores,” he said.
Flexibility and Innovation
With the largest production capacity worldwide, Oriental Weavers prides itself on its ability to serve both mass-market and premium segments.
“We are a decorative business that must always respond to changing colors, designs, and price points,” Salah explained. “The shift to online platforms has pushed demand for more affordable, eco-friendly products. Thanks to our flexibility, we can cater to every segment – from entry-level rugs to luxury pieces – which is why Oriental Weavers continues to lead globally.”
Looking Ahead
By exploring Intertextile Shanghai, Oriental Weavers aims to strengthen its connections with international buyers and evaluate the fair as a platform for expanding the rug and flooring segment in Asia and beyond.
