MUNICH FABRIC START starts with a furore

MUNICH FABRIC START is confirmed in its standing as one of the most important European fabric fairs and trend authorities: full exhibition halls, exciting highlights and innovations, new areas and a large number of visitors consisting of international buyers, designers and product managers on the first day of the show.

Far furore: The 50th edition of MUNICH FABRIC START got off to a flying start today. Innovative and forward-looking, Munich Fabric Start Exhibitions GmbH is showing itself bigger and stronger than ever with its fabric show.

Full halls: With around 900 exhibitors from 40 countries and 1,500 collections on a total exhibition area of 45,000 square metres, the trade show MUNICH FABRIC START with four halls in the MOC, BLUEZONE with two halls, the KEYHOUSE as well as the new format THE SOURCE with around 2,500 square metres of additional space have grown once again and reached the level of the last pre-Corona edition in September 2019 in terms of exhibitors.

THE SOURCE, in response to the growing demand for manufacturing and nearshoring, is also fully booked with 65 exhibitors in the newly developed Hall 8 directly opposite the MOC and opened successfully today.

“We have delivered.”
A veritable visitor rush on the first day of the show is another sign that MUNICH FABRIC START is on the right track with its chosen date of 30 August to 1 September and reaffirms the Munich event’s standing as one of the most important European fabric trade shows and trend authorities. FURORE, the current leading theme of MUNICH FABRIC START, has come true.

With pride and appreciation to all exhibitors we can say: We have delivered. We are very happy to offer the industry a relevant, future-oriented, holistic and strong event with the 50th edition of MUNICH FABRIC START. We have gone all-in and I think you can see and feel that here on site“, says Sebastian Klinder, Managing Director der MUNICH FABRIC START.

From the inspiring trend areas and a meaningful portfolio with Europe’s most important weavers, design studios, denim mills, vertical sourcing suppliers and finishing companies for fabrics and accessories to top-class speakers in the lecture forums, the new area THE SOURCE and exciting partnerships such as with the Transformers Foundation to the trade fair party – that is MUNICH FABRIC START, that is unique“, adds Frank Junker, Managing Director der MUNICH FABRIC START.

THE TRENDS FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2023/24: EXTREME
The trends for the new season are also derived from the motto of the 50th MUNICH FABRIC START, FURORE.

Far furore means to arouse enthusiasm. But FURORE also stands for frenzy and anger about all the things that are going on in the world right now. Outside as well as inside our common industry, which we don’t want to close ourselves off to, but want to and will face up to. The expression describes exactly where we are at the moment: right in between“, says Jo Baumgartner, Head of Trends & Fabrics of MUNICH FABRIC START and Curator of the Trend Forums.

For Autumn.Winter 2023/24, this is reflected in five trend themes: turmoil and frenzy are evident in the “Withstand” trend theme with very tactile, robust fabrics and oversized aesthetics.

The contrast is “Meta Haze” and “Winter Fantasies”: the look is similarly extreme, similar to Maxi, but with a bright colour palette combining cosmic purple, bright pink and otherworldly turquoise with volatile, reflective fibres, gemstones and sequins. The minimalism of heightened environmental awareness is shown in the “Ecopolis” and “Better Basics” themes with soft, natural stone, wood, sea and earth tones and innovative, plant-based materials.

Individual key crypto colours in the Autumn.Winter 2023/24 colour trends are bright sulphur yellow, intense lapis lazuli blue and an almost summery, loud turquoise. Pink currently stands out as a favourite. In keeping with the FURORE theme, it combines impulsiveness, riotousness and juvenile passion.

Black and white with a third colour are clear and modern combinations. Orange and red intensive tones contrast with natural cold and warm earth colours in greens and browns. Also important is the colour spectrum of the universe in dark blues, blues, browns, purples and the cheerfully playful rainbow colour palette. Also an important colour family are the natural, cheerful and powerful ochre tones, from more subtle variants in beige to dry corn and a wide variety of curry shades.

In these times of uncertainty, we humans look for powerful emotional anchors. From our point of view, this is also the reason why there are so many extremely loud tendencies.“ Jo Baumgartner

As usual, you will find the detailed trend forecast for FURORE with 5 specific trend themes as well as the 4 detailed BLUEZONE trends for the leading theme CAMPUS in our seasonal TREND BOOK. Our COLOUR CODE supports you with a high-quality yarn selection in the trend colours for Autumn.Winter 2023/24.
