Driving Growth and Innovation: Insights from Uzbekistan’s Textile Industry

Join us for an exclusive interview with Mr. Yoqubjonov Sanjar, General Director of the Uzbekistan Textile Association, as he provides valuable insights into the dynamic landscape of Uzbekistan’s textile industry. Over the years, Uzbekistan has witnessed significant advancements, with a remarkable achievement of 100% reproduction of power supply from 2016 to 2022, leading to consistent growth in production capacities.

Mr. Sanjar sheds light on Uzbekistan’s thriving cotton yarn factories, plans for further development in dyeing, fabric, and garment production, and the country’s strategic partnerships, particularly with Turkey, driving innovation and expansion in the textile sector.

Regarding Uzbekistan’s textile industry, there have been significant developments over the years. Between 2000 and 2016, our cotton fiber production averaged around 1,000,000 tons in Uzbekistan, with a capacity of approximately 50% available for reproduction. However, from 2016 to 2022, we achieved 100% reproduction of our power supply, resulting in consistent growth. Each year sees new factories opening and production capacities expanding.

Presently, Uzbekistan boasts over 300 cotton yarn factories, with plans to further develop dyeing, fabric, and garment production. In the garment sector, we’ve secured orders from global brands, such as LC Waikiki, showcasing Uzbekistan’s potential in high-quality textile manufacturing. We aim to not only bolster foreign international brands production but also establish our own brands.

Turkey has played a pivotal role in Uzbekistan’s textile trade, particularly in cotton yarn, fabrics, and other textile products. Since our independence in 1991, our partnership with Turkey has flourished, making it the second-largest market for Uzbek textile products after China and Russia. This ongoing collaboration has fueled the continuous growth of Uzbekistan’s textile industry, with efforts to develop our own brands and foster partnerships in Turkey showing promising results.

The textile sector in Uzbekistan is dynamic, with ongoing efforts to innovate and expand production capacities. The pursuit of developing our own brands and fostering collaborations with international partners, particularly in Turkey, underscores our commitment to sustained growth and development in the textile industry.
