AATCC Foundation Announces New Funding for Textile Research Projects

The AATCC Foundation is excited to announce the availability of new funding through its Student Research Support Grant Program. This initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students engaged in textile-related research projects. Proposals for funding, to be awarded in January 2025, are now being accepted. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2024.

Application Process

The grant application process is straightforward, requiring students to submit an online form that includes a description of their proposed project and their resume. Additionally, a supporting cover letter from the student’s major professor or advisor is encouraged. This letter should highlight the significance of the research problem and the student’s capability to carry out the project.

Research Priorities and Funding Details

Priority will be given to research focused on test method development, evaluation of textile performance in real-world scenarios, and the relationships between these areas. Grants will range from $500 to $4,000. Additionally, recipients may request up to $500 for travel and/or registration expenses to present their research at a technical conference. Detailed guidelines, along with the application form and submission instructions, are available on the AATCC Foundation’s website.

Reporting Requirements

The AATCC Foundation places significant emphasis on practical and impactful research. As part of their commitment, they request that the faculty advisor and student complete the Student Research Support Project Report Form shortly after the project’s completion, but no later than December 31. This report, which should be submitted to India Hansen, will help the foundation track the progress and outcomes of the supported projects.

Selection and Impact

Funding decisions will be made by a panel of esteemed academic and industry professionals from across the textile sector. This diverse panel ensures a comprehensive evaluation of each proposal, promoting innovative and relevant research within the industry. Past funded projects have included areas such as tissue engineering, digital printing, sustainable textile production, and advanced material studies. These projects reflect the foundation’s mission to “empower an innovative, informed, and sustainable future.”

Professional Development Opportunities

The AATCC Foundation has a long history of supporting textile education and research, aiming to foster the next generation of textile professionals and innovators. By providing these grants, the foundation not only supports the students financially but also encourages the dissemination of their findings through conferences and publications, thus contributing to the broader knowledge base of the textile industry.

Students who receive these grants often have the opportunity to present their research at prominent technical conferences, enhancing their professional development and networking within the industry. The additional reimbursement for travel and registration costs underscores the foundation’s commitment to facilitating these opportunities.

Concluding Remarks

The foundation’s support extends beyond financial assistance. Through these grants, students gain valuable experience in project management, grant writing, and research dissemination. The experience and recognition gained through this program can be pivotal in launching successful careers in the textile industry.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines carefully and to submit their proposals well before the deadline to ensure consideration. The AATCC Foundation looks forward to supporting innovative and impactful textile research projects that align with their mission and contribute to the advancement of the textile industry.
