ANDRITZ and Tandem Repeat Partner to Deliver Industrial Solutions for Producing Novel Sustainable Fiber

International technology group ANDRITZ has announced a strategic collaboration with Tandem Repeat Technologies, an innovative biotechnology company, to develop and commercialize industrial-scale solutions for producing Procell™, a next-generation sustainable fiber designed for textiles and nonwovens applications.

A Fusion of Engineering and Biotechnology

The partnership combines Tandem Repeat’s cutting-edge biotechnology expertise with ANDRITZ’s global leadership in process engineering, nonwoven systems, and manmade cellulosic fiber production. Together, the companies aim to accelerate the textile industry’s transition toward bio-based, low-impact materials that can replace conventional synthetic fibers.

Procell™, developed and patented by Tandem Repeat, is a biomanufactured protein-based fiber that offers a unique combination of wool-like softness, exceptional tensile strength, durability, and versatility. Its structure allows it to mimic natural materials while maintaining superior performance — making it suitable for a wide range of textile and technical applications.

Scaling Innovation for a Sustainable Future

Under this collaboration, ANDRITZ will adapt its proven production technologies to meet the specific processing needs of Procell™, enabling fiber manufacturers to scale up production efficiently and sustainably. Meanwhile, Tandem Repeat will continue advancing its proprietary Procell™ biomanufacturing technology, ensuring that the new fiber maintains consistent quality and performance at industrial scale.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Tandem Repeat on this exciting product,” said Dr. Sergey Malkov, Vice President, Manmade Cellulosic Fibers at ANDRITZ. “Procell fiber has the potential to be a true breakthrough in sustainable materials.”
Dr. Melik Demirel, Co-founder of Tandem Repeat, added: “By partnering with ANDRITZ, we can bring our revolutionary fiber to market on a commercial scale. This collaboration will help industries achieve sustainable production and enhance supply chain resilience.”

Pioneering the Next Era of Sustainable Fibers

The partnership represents a significant step forward in merging biotechnology and industrial engineering to create scalable, sustainable textile solutions. By combining biological innovation with proven manufacturing expertise, ANDRITZ and Tandem Repeat are paving the way for a new generation of renewable, high-performance fibers that reduce dependence on petrochemical-based materials.
