The Fabtex Georgia Exhibition Ignites Regional Industry Growth

An interview with Mr. Ergun Karabulut – CEO of Kuzey Expo Türkiye – the organizer of the Georgia fabtex exhibition

With a storied legacy steeped in the textile and clothing industry, Georgia’s historical significance in craftsmanship and trade is undeniable. However, in recent years, there has been a palpable urgency to propel this industry forward, catalyzing a new era of growth and innovation within the country. As anticipation mounts for an imminent exhibition in Tbilisi, designed to cater to Georgia’s burgeoning appetite for textile goods, we seized the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the managing director of the organizing company.

  • Why did you choose Georgia for this event?

Our decision to host the event in Georgia was strategic. After thorough assessment of the textile industry’s potential in the Caucasus region, Georgia emerged as a prime location due to its geographical advantage and recent investments. With access to a market of nearly 900 million people in its vicinity, Georgia boasts over 300 small and medium production units, along with approximately 30 large production units.

Moreover, Georgia’s proximity to major textile suppliers like China and Turkey, coupled with its pool of skilled fashion designers attuned to the preferences of the Russian and European markets, positions it as a potential European supplier amidst rising production costs elsewhere.

Additionally, Georgia serves as a vital trade conduit for neighbouring countries like Armenia, offering a channel for commercial activities amidst geopolitical challenges. Notably, the presence of Russian and Ukrainian businesses underscores Georgia’s appeal as an investment destination.

The Fabtex Exhibition Ignites Regional Industry Growth

  •  Are the infrastructure conditions conducive to textile production in Georgia?

Georgia offers several advantages for textile production, including free trade agreements with regional and European countries, competitive production and labor costs, a skilled workforce, and a vibrant community of fashion designers.

Furthermore, its strategic location facilitates easy access to export markets. By leveraging these strengths and fostering an environment conducive to international collaboration, we aim to position the Fabtex exhibition as a regional hub, catalyzing the growth of the textile and clothing industry across Georgia and the wider Caucasus region.

  • How do textile exhibitions contribute to industry development?

Textile exhibitions play a pivotal role in industry development, offering a tangible platform for businesses to showcase their products and forge connections. Despite advancements in virtual communication, physical exhibitions remain indispensable, particularly in industries like textiles where tactile experience is paramount. The evolving landscape of exhibitions favors medium-sized events at regional and national levels, fostering closer interactions between exhibitors and buyers.

At the Fabtex exhibition, we anticipate hosting a diverse array of visitors and professional buyers from regional countries such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Iran, and Russia. Through curated business meetings and networking opportunities, we aspire to facilitate meaningful collaborations and drive industry advancement.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming Iranian visitors, given the proximity of Iran to Georgia and the streamlined visa requirements, further enriching the collaborative spirit of the event.
