A New Wave of Colour and Bold Mission for Iconic, Ocean-waste Recycled Polyester

Global textile designer and manufacturer Camira has reimagined its popular, award-winning, post-consumer recycled polyester fabric, Oceanic, unveiling an extended colour palette of 27 shades. The company will also introduce a give-back donation scheme to fund ocean clean-up projects worldwide.

Each year, 14 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean. Crafted entirely from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester, including ocean-found marine plastic waste, Oceanic supports global clean-up efforts. For every metre sold, Camira will donate to the SEAQUAL Foundation, with each donation matched by SEAQUAL® Initiative. These contributions directly fund projects in the Kerkennah Islands (Tunisia) and along the Nile River (Egypt), where communities are fairly paid to collect and process plastic, creating jobs and driving lasting social and environmental impact.

Camira Highlights Oceanic Fabric

Camira’s Creative Director, Lynn Kingdon said: “Oceanic is an iconic fabric within Camira’s portfolio of sustainable and environmental textiles and is a small but meaningful step in raising awareness about the serious issue of plastic waste.”

First launched in 2020 in partnership with the SEAQUAL® Initiative, every metre of Oceanic uses the equivalent of 35 plastic bottles.

Kingdon continued: “Oceanic’s new palette reflects its mission to protect the planet. Influenced by the colours of the shoreline and marine habitat, we’ve introduced shades inspired by the natural world – from soft neutrals drawn from rockpool ecosystems, to deep ocean blues, tranquil sea greens, and coral tones.

“Green remains one of the most searched-for colours on the Camira website, and the interior design industry continues to bring the outdoors in. We’ve celebrated this through the extended palette, demonstrating the possibilities of transforming waste into beautiful textile design.”

Woven at Camira’s manufacturing sites in West Yorkshire in the UK, Oceanic has a two-tone twill design with a matt aesthetic, a substantial handle, and certified durability and performance for commercial, hospitality, and resimmercial spaces.
