Baghdad Mayor Alaa Maan has called on Turkish companies to increase their investment in the Iraqi capital, emphasizing the value of Turkey’s experience in urban development and modern infrastructure projects.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) on Tuesday, Maan said Turkey’s achievements in city planning and construction serve as an inspiring model for Baghdad as it seeks to rebuild and modernize key sectors.
Strengthening Cooperation Following High-Level Diplomatic Engagement
The mayor highlighted that Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s visit to Turkey on December 17 played an important role in strengthening bilateral and economic relations. The visit focused on expanding cooperation, enhancing trade, and addressing regional developments.
“We want everyone to have a role in the development of Baghdad,” Maan stated. “Turkey’s experience in this field is inspiring. We want to benefit from Turkey’s expertise in development and increase cooperation.”

Municipal services in Baghdad have struggled since the U.S. invasion in 2003, with many reconstruction efforts facing corruption allegations and delays. Maan stressed that attracting capable and experienced international partners—particularly from Turkey—will be essential in rebuilding trust, improving services, and advancing long-term development plans.
Baghdad’s leadership hopes that greater engagement from Turkish companies will accelerate urban renewal and restore essential municipal infrastructure across the capital.
