Egypt is stepping up efforts to modernize its spinning and weaving industry as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s textile manufacturing sector and improve the performance of state-owned companies.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfiq, called for continued government efforts to upgrade Egypt’s spinning and weaving industry and help the sector regain its prominent position.
The president emphasized the importance of maintaining comprehensive reforms across the public business sector, particularly in industries with significant potential to support manufacturing, employment and economic development.
Egypt Focuses on Textile Industry Development
During the meeting, Tawfiq briefed President Sisi on the Ministry of Public Business Sector’s plans and ongoing efforts to improve the country’s textile industry. Discussions also included a review of assets belonging to public business sector companies and ways to improve their utilization.
Egypt has a long-established spinning and weaving industry supported by its cotton production and extensive textile manufacturing infrastructure. Modernizing production facilities and improving operational efficiency are therefore considered important steps toward strengthening the industry’s competitiveness.

President Sisi also called for the establishment of accurate sector-specific databases to help maximize the benefits of investment and support more effective decision-making.
According to presidential spokesman Bassam Rady, comprehensive and reliable databases could contribute to better management of state assets and help identify opportunities for future investment.
The government’s modernization efforts are expected to support the development of Egypt’s textile value chain, particularly spinning and weaving operations.
By upgrading production capabilities, improving the management of public-sector textile companies and encouraging investment, Egypt aims to enhance the competitiveness of its domestic textile industry and strengthen its position as an important textile manufacturing hub in the region.
